Op Selamat 24 to bring greater police presence on highways from March 29 to April 3 – JSPT director

Highways nationwide will see increased police presence during Op Selamat 24 from March 29 for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations this year, with nearly 7,000 police personnel to be on duty at this time, reported The Star.

A total of 6,957 police personnel have been assigned to the operation, said Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri. Op Selamat 24 will run from March 29 to April 3, according to the report.

Extra attention will given to accident-prone areas, with the JSPT having identified 25 hotspots and 46 black spots on major highways, Mohd Yusri said. “These roads will be given special attention to ensure that all road users can travel safely and comfortably,” he said.

Around 2.2 million vehicles will be on the highways during the holiday period, and constant surveillance will be conducted to assist road users in times of need or emergencies, Mohd Yusri said.
