According to a report by Astro Awani, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) through the traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) will focus on six major offences during Op Selamat 24, which will run from March 29 to April 3 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
JSPT deputy director of general policing, investigation and procurement ACP Fauzi Osman said the major offences include driving over the speed limit, overtaking on double lanes, using a mobile phone while driving, using the emergency lane when the Smart Lane is not activated, disobeying traffic lights as well as overtaking dangerously.
“All of these violations will be strictly enforced, with a RM300 fine imposed on offenders,” Fauzi said. “Based on our investigations, many road issues are caused by the attitudes of road users. Therefore, in addition to enforcement, we are also conducting extensive awareness campaigns, including in schools, to spread the message of road safety to the public,” he added.
Op Selamat 24 will involve 6,957 officers and personnel, with 25 hotspots and 46 other black spots to be continuously monitoring due to the frequent number of accidents.

Great initiative, especially the education part. We need an update to the road laws to combat the wave of thuggery and bully behaviour with harsher laws.
But motorcycles have a different set of rules. That’s why none of them are bothered about traffic lights, one-way streets, etc.
It’s better to overhaul the driving schools and have reevaluation of drivers over age of 50. Most of the issues of traffic congestion are caused by people driving below the speed limit, slowly taking off from traffic lights, not using signal when switching lanes, not yielding to faster traffic, using phone while driving, etc.
There must also be yearly checks for tyres and wear and tear items as many accidents are caused by negligence of vehicle owners to make sure their cars are safe to be on the road.
Also PLUS has been collecting billions for years but never bother to install lights for the whole stretch of the expressways. Many accidents at night are due to poor visibility at night.
