Behold the world’s fastest and most powerful front-engined convertible (yes, even considering the 12Cilindri Spider) – the new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante. If you’ve ever thought the svelte 835 PS/1,000 Nm V12 grand tourer would be better with unlimited headroom, your prayers have been answered.
So, 5.2 litres, eight-speed ZF auto, rear e-diff that goes from fully open to fully locked in 135 milliseconds, 345 km/h top speed – you know all that from the coupe, so let’s go straight to what you want to know.
Structural reinforcements to retain as much of the coupe’s rigidity as possible have resulted in a 95-kg increase to 1,869 kg, so the Volante is a tenth of a second slower to 100 km/h, at 3.4 seconds. The fabric roof opens in 14 seconds, closes in 16, and is operable up to 50 km/h.
Like its fixed-roof sister, the Vanquish Volante has 21-inch alloys wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros, but the wheel design here is different – it’s more-spoked and more rectangular. Six-piston carbon ceramic brakes up front; four-piston brakes out back. The suspension – front double wishbones, rear multi links, Bilstein DTX dampers – has been tuned to suit the Volante.
Unsurprisingly, apart from the soft-top switch located below the stubby gear lever, the Volante’s interior mirrors the coupe’s. Two 10.25-inch screens, 15 Bowers & Wilkins speakers and an abundance of buttons – all present and correct.
Says Aston Martin: “The sensational new Vanquish Volante is available to order now, in limited numbers (Vanquish coupe + Vanquish Volante = less than 1,000 units per year), with first deliveries arriving Q3 2025. All will be Vanquished.” You bet. The coupe launched in Malaysia late last year from RM5 million with all taxes in but before any options and customisation. How much for the Volante, you reckon?
