Audi stops all vehicle exports to the US due to tariffs

Audi has joined Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and other brands in temporarily suspending shipment of cars to the United States due to the 25% tariff announced by president Donald Trump that came into effect on April 3, 2025.

According to Automobilwoche, there are about 37,000 Audi cars already in the US, which not affected by the new tariffs and good for roughly 60 days’ worth of inventory. There are also cars that have already arrived at US ports, although these won’t be brought out as they will be subject to taxes. Every Audi sold in the US is imported from either Europe or Mexico.

As for how other brands are responding to US tariffs, Car and Driver reports that BMW will cover tariff costs for cars built in Mexico until May 1. Mercedes-Benz is also doing the same for 2025 model year cars, although it isn’t certain for how long.

Meanwhile, Stellantis has already said it is temporarily suspending production of certain models and is offering employee pricing to all customers, the latter being a move that Ford is also taking. Ferrari has said it is raising prices for some of its models by 10%, including the Purosangue, 12Cilindri and F80. Hyundai announced it won’t raise the price of its models and those from Genesis for at least two months.

Price hikes will affect Ineos models that are only built in France for now, while Infiniti has indefinitely paused production of the QX50 and QX55 in Mexico. Volkswagen, which owns Audi, has also said it is pausing all US imports.
