KLIA Transit train frequency increased today and April 17 as road closures for China’s president Xi take place

Chinese president Xi Jinping will be arriving in Malaysia today for a three-day state visit and there will be a spate of road closures. The road closures involve roads around KLIA, Putrajaya, highways to and from KL and major roads in the city – details and full list here and here.

Of note to air travellers would be road closures around KLIA and the ELITE Highway today and on April 17. While there’s an alternative ‘back road’ to the airport, expect major congestion.

In light of the road closures, KLIA Transit services between KL Sentral and KLIA have been increased to accommodate the anticipated high volume today and on April 17. Today, evening peak hours have been extended to 3pm to 8pm, and throughout this period, train frequency is 15 minutes.

As for Thursday, the morning peak hour period will be from 6am to 11am, and trains will depart KL Sentral or the airport every 15 minutes. It’ll be wise to use the train if you need to reach the airport, but even so, make sure you have plenty of buffer. Safe travels.
