Continental has announced that it will discontinue tyre manufacturing operations at its Alor Setar plant in Kedah by the end of 2025. The facility currently produces passenger car, light truck and motorcycle tyres for the Asia-Pacific market.
In a statement, Continental said that the decision to close the Alor Setar tyre plant follows a comprehensive business review to safeguard the company’s competitiveness and business performance in the Asia-Pacific region. “Adapting to changing customer demand, the company seeks to optimise its local product portfolio and its manufacturing footprint,” it said.
The company said that the Continental Tyre AS Malaysia facility presently employs 950 people, and that its priority was to support these employees by offering assistance such as career counseling and exploring potential job opportunities, both within the company and externally.
Despite the plant closure, the German automotive parts manufacturing firm said that Malaysia continues to be a key market for it in the Asia-Pacific region. “The company reaffirms its commitment to its customers and partners in Malaysia, emphasising that long-term relationships and trust continue to be at the heart of its business in the country,” it said.
The Alor Setar plant began operations on December 20, 1979 and has been a fully-owned subsidiary of the brand since 2012. The company continues to have tyre manufacturing operations in Malaysia through its Petaling Jaya plant, which is located in Section 51.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

If I have the investment $$,I might as well rent a big space to bring in China made tyres..distribute to local retailers and or sell online thro Lazada.
Goodyear already chuplup..this one is a matter of time.
We r nor competitive against the influx of China tyres.
For example,a full set of Continental tyres for Myvi…Rm880. Similar set from China Rm 480.Nowadays,as long as boleh pakai, and last u 3 years…no harm trying China tyres.
No more nice dunlop and continental motorcycle tires made in malaysia…
Last year, Conti started downsizing at their r&d center in Perai, Pulau Penang. Many lost their jobs.
With Madani’s plan of fuel and electricity prices going up soon, life will not get any easier.
Who wants to do business in an outdated and backward state governed by criminals. They rather keep the higher cost plant in the Klang valley. Madani still works, just not for those who voted otherwise.
This Madani only knows how to make peoples’ lives tougher. From taxes increase, electricity tariff increase and removal of subsidies, really don’t know what are they good for besides the empty promises. Meanwhile, people continues in their hard work to pay taxes to feed those good for nothing politicians!!!!!
Aiyoo Sanusi..

Only a local malaysian tire manufacturer will continue making tires in malaysia
Similar to say indonesia, most of their tire factories there are locally owned with local tire brands.
Tire manufacturing IMO is a strategic business that will support a lot of local entities, especially in the rubber sector.
Can say sime darby reacquire and continue the alor setar tire factory?
Orang kedah sila boikot brand ni
