The Toyota C-HR is making a return to the United States several years after the nameplate was discontinued at the end of 2022. Set to debut for the 2026 model year, the all-new, e-TNGA-based C-HR is now fully electric and is effectively a carbon copy of the C-HR+ introduced for Europe in March.
Where the C-HR+ is offered with three powertrain options, the version without the ‘+’ in its name only gets the one. The setup features a pair of electric motors – one for each axle – to provide all-wheel drive and a total system output of 338 hp.
Power for the electric motors is provided by a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 74.7 kWh that is estimated to provide 467 km (290 miles) of range. For charging, the C-HR can accept up to 11 kW AC and it will also support DC fast charging, the latter via a North American Charging System (NACS) port to get the battery from a 10-80% state of charge in 30 minutes.
The C-HR Battery Electric Vehicle, as it is called in the official release, will be available in SE and XSE grades. Both will come standard with a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, dual wireless charging pads, paddle shifters to adjust regenerative braking, a powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS.
Depending on how customers spec their purchase, other available equipment include fabric/Softex or Softex/synthetic suede seat upholstery, powered front seats, 18- or 20-inch wheels, a digital rear-view mirror, a panoramic roof, a six- or nine-speaker sound system (the latter from JBL) and additional ADAS functions (traffic jam assist, lane change assist).
