Lexus has introduced a new variant of the IS 500 for North America which serves to celebrate the model as being one of the last remaining naturally-aspirated luxury V8s on the market. Called the Ultimate Edition, it is limited to just 500 units and is based on the existing IS 500 F Sport Performance.
The Ultimate Edition is made special by its exclusive metallic grey paint called Wind that is accompanied by 19-inch forged alloy wheels by BBS that are finished in matte black. Meanwhile, the interior features Circuit Red leather with black accents and red seatbelts, with the seats being trimmed in NuLuxe and Ultrasuede. There’s also a custom serialised badge on the dashboard as a reminder of the car’s rarity.
Under the bonnet, there is still a 5.0 litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine that serves up 472 hp and 535 Nm of torque, with drive sent only to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Stopping power is increased thanks to Brembo six-piston aluminium calipers finished in red at the front that clamp down on large 380-mm discs.
Pricing for the IS 500 Ultimate Edition will be announced when the vehicle goes on sale later this fall, with all units coming standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 suite. This includes active safety systems such as pre-collision with pedestrian detection, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist and automatic high beam.
