Asean Summit 2025 – Police to hold dry run May 21-22

Malaysia is hosting the Asean Summit 2025, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on May 26 and 27. The arrival of visiting heads of states to the city centre will involve extensive closures of highways and major roads at various locations from May 23 to 28; see the full list here.

Ahead of the summit’s official commencement, Malaysian police will be holding a dry run that involves traffic control and road closures in preparation, and the rehearsal will take place across two days from tomorrow (May 21 to 22, Wednesday and Thursday), reported New Straits Times.

Affected routes on the dry run include those from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to various hotels in the city centre, around KLCC and Istana Negara, and road users are advised to comply with instructions from traffic control personnel, and to avoid these areas during the dry run that takes place over the next two days.

The rehearsal is to mirror actual summit-day operations, and will simulate key aspects of summit logistics including motorcade movements, control of routes and venues as well as traffic flow management at hotels and the KLCC area, according to the report.

The dry run aims to provide awareness to road users ahead of time regarding the routes that will be closed during the event, said Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

As reported previously, a total of six highways and 25 major roads will be closed or diverted at various times from May 23 to 28, between 8am and 8pm. The Bukit Aman JSPT director also said that 789 traffic police officers will be on duty throughout this period for VVIP motorcade escorts and traffic control, while assets on standby include 36 cars, 313 high-powered motorcycles, 190 normal motorcycles, and tow-trucks.

  • They have a choice to hold the event elsewhere but still choose to make life difficult for all of us. ASEAN ministers did not vote you, the rakyat did.
