The KL Car Free Morning (KLCFM) working committee has announced that there will be no KLCFM on May 25, which is this Sunday. The weekly Sunday morning open circuit around the city has been cancelled due to ‘extensive road closures in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit’.
Extensive is the right word. PDRM has announced road closures and diversions for six highways and 25 major roads from May 23-28 as Malaysia – the ASEAN chair this year – welcomes leaders of Southeast Asian countries for the ASEAN Summit that will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on May 26 and 27. Full details here.
The cops will be having a dry run today, and commuters are advised to take public transport into the city throughout the event – there will be many road closures as the delegates are transported from their hotels to the event venues and back.
Fans of the KLCFM – where 5/7km of city centre roads are blocked off to traffic to allow cyclists, runners and skaters full freedom on Sunday mornings – will have to wait for further announcement for the next event.
