Ice delivery lorry overturns, kills JPJ officer in collision

Another day, another lorry-related road fatality. On Wednesday, a road transport department (JPJ) officer was killed after the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a refrigerated lorry at KM137 of the Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan road near Temerloh, Bernama reports.

According to Temerloh police chief Mazlan Hassan, the 36-year-old victim, who served in the Temerloh JPJ prosecution unit, died at the scene during the 5.16 pm incident. He said preliminary investigations revealed both vehicles were travelling from Temerloh towards Mentakab before the 33-year-old lorry driver was believed to have lost control of his ice delivery vehicle.

“The lorry veered off to the left, but in an attempt to avoid crashing into the road barrier, turned over in the middle of the road. The victim, who was riding a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle behind the lorry, was unable to avoid the vehicle and crashed into its midsection,” he said.

Mazlan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Lorry probably speeding. Come to Port Klang area…and you shall see those heavy vehicles speeding…even on the right lane. Until something happens…maybe enforcement…right now, these heavy vehicles speeding and speeding with all their heavy loads. Sigh.
