Gov’t has allocated RM350 million for 563 federal road maintenance projects this year – Ahmad Maslan

The government says that a total of RM350 million has been allocated for maintenance works on 563 federal roads in the peninsula this year. According to deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, RM275 million will be for periodic pavement maintenance work and RM75 million for non-pavement maintenance work.

He said that the maintenance work is being offered to grade G1 to G4 contractors through balloting, with the balloting process for the programme in the south zone being held this week, while that for the north zone will be carried out on June 5-6, Bernama reports.

Ahmad said this was to ensure that all contractors involved are given equal opportunities. He added that all the contractors involved in the balloting had been vetted by the authorities to ensure that all implemented projects would run smoothly and be completed as scheduled.

He said that there was no issue about contractors not being able to do the job. “These contractors have been shortlisted, whereby we consider them as having the capability to do the job, and we are confident that they can complete the task given,” he explained.

“The balloting is done fairly and contractors can view the results online. The contractors chosen last year are not eligible to be picked this year,” he added.
