The road transport department (JPJ) has announced it will implement ‘Operasi Khas Hari Raya Aidiladha 2025’ from June 4-10 as part of efforts to reduce traffic accidents throughout the upcoming festive season.
The operation, which will be implemented nationwide, will monitor, detect and take action against road users who break roads laws. Several key enforcement strategies that will be used include monitoring and auditing bus operations at depots and terminals, as well as inspections on commercial vehicles, motorcycles and technical checks.
The department will also focus on nine main offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), including driving above the speed limit, disobeying traffic light signals, overtaking on a double-lined road, abusing the emergency lane, disobeying road lines, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt/helmet, driving a heavy commercial vehicle on the overtaking lane and overloading a vehicle.
The department aims to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries due to accidents by at least 50% by 2030, with the implementation of this operation being part of its long-term commitment to improve road user safety.
