The ministry of transport has ordered Prasarana to enhance safety measures in place at all light rail transit (LRT) stations, including the installation of passenger safety doors, reported New Straits Times.
This is to prevent a recurrence of incidents such as the one involving a Taiwan national who died after falling on to the LRT track at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station yesterday, said transport minister Anthony Loke.
“In terms of safety measures, I have asked Prasarana to plan to install passenger safety doors at all LRT and MRT stations. For this reason, for new MRT stations, there are safety doors, we have one [automated] door before the train arrives,” Loke said.
The monorail service has also been prepared for the safety enhancements, however the Ampang LRT line is comprised of stations of an older design which may have yet to receive the newer safety doors on their platforms, the transport minister said. “So, that is something I have asked Prasarana to implement,” Loke added.
Meanwhile, investigations into the death of the Taiwanese national are underway, Serdang police chief assistant commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said.

I thought the old LRT had PIES (Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop) installed by AZTI group. It was announced as advanced safety many years ago without the need of safety door because the mechanical maintenance and alignment calibration cost $$$ to Prasarana. What happened?
The accident occurred at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station, which is part of the Sri Petaling Line. It was noted that this station is part of the older design.
The most important thing is, don’t stand too close to the edge of the platform while you’re at the station.
They serve different safety purpose.
Hopefully it applies to any lrt station
Plenty of 1st world countries’ metros do not have safety doors. Accidents happen. I’m not at all saying it applies in this case, but carelessness and stupidity kill much more effectively than any prevention can avoid.
Taiwanese people well known as 2nd most frequent to suicide after Japanese, so it is no surprise if someone from there wanted to end himself. How can Prasarana stop this from just an order? Why not Loke try to stop it himself?
Recalitrant Plain BS,
The issue is not Taiwanese or Msian or American.
The issue is accidental “jatuh”.Your nephew or emak could be the next victim, without safety barriers.
After 2 fatal incidents, baru ahlokekor is waking up…why r we voting for an incompetent menteri giving him huge emoluments n subsequent pension?
