According to Japan’s CarWatch, Subaru will present a new model at this year’s Japan Mobility Show that takes place in late October. During a recent media session on the sidelines of the Super Taikyu series at Fuji Speedway, the automaker teased the mysterious car which could be an all-new WRX or a STI model.
The teaser depicts a performance model with a front-end which appears reminiscent of the current, second-generation WRX that made its debut back in September 2021. There are some differences noticed, including a revised grille design and what looks to be bonnet vents. We also spot flared wheel arches, a new DRL signature, a front spoiler lip and a longer roofline, the last of which suggests a hatchback body style.
Subaru executive managing director and chief technical officer Tetsuro Fujinuki, who presented the teaser, said the new model will make “good use of our current technological assets” and that “we would like to create an even more cutting-edge car.”
At this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru present a prototype of the WRX STI S210, which will go on sale in Japan in the spring and be limited to just 500 units. In addition to a bump in power, the limited edition offering comes with extra bracing, adaptive dampers and an aero kit – it sadly only comes with a CVT instead of a manual transmission. However, that car looks different from what was teased recently, so we’ll have to wait till October to see what Subaru has cooked up.
