The transport ministry will develop a database for drivers of express buses and tour buses, including their records, for the safety of public land transportation, reported Bernama.
The system is to be developed by the land public transport agency (APAD), and this would enable bus companies to assess the eligibility of drivers and their backgrounds before hiring them.
“Currently in our system, we do not have a database that covers all this. We only have their licensing details but whether or not they have any previous records, the companies that hire them have no references,” transport minister Anthony Loke said in a media conference following the bus crash in Gerik that killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students and injured 33.
“In the system, perhaps a driver who did not carry out his responsibilities properly and was sacked from company A, he may go to company B… so, drivers lacking integrity are still on the market,” Loke said.
Earlier, the transport minister said that speed limiters will soon be mandatory for heavy vehicles in Malaysia, and that the policy is being thoroughly reviewed to ensure that there are no loopholes or opportunities for manipulation once it is implemented.

Develop what database? Just use Excel and share the file to every department. Jangan asyik nak bazir duit.
AT such speed,, bus suspension cannot withstand high GEForce become unstable,,, hence the bus just rollover with slight turn, just before overturn the bus was running on two wheels instead of Six wheels.
MAYBE the driver learn driving playing Need For Speed.
Why the need for data base?
The recalcitrant bus driver has a string of summonses…the bugger can keep driving .By right the bastard should not be allowed on the road.
After a “heavy” accident, plenty of “ban”,di sita etc..whats the point? The FRU truck accident and this UPSI bus accident…25 lives gone!!
From Ling Liong Sik to Wee Wee to Ahlokekor..nothing has progressed.
Now one knows why so many untouchables here in the country no monitoring, no enforcement no nothing just relax la cari makan saja dan…..
follow what Japan does. EVERY SINGLE DAY, before start of trip, every driver must be tested for drugs and road worthiness.
Ah yes, another day, another system. Because clearly, the solution to every problem is a shiny new project — preferably one that quietly funnels public money into the right pockets.
Wayang sahaja. Semua goyang telur dan makan rasuah.
WTH…our minister can say somehing as ‘low’ as this…
No need for some fancy system or database using my money. The database is already there, just extract the fking data as and when needed. U yourself told the media this and that driver had multiple summons after a tragedy struck so its clear the database is there.
U also have database of who holds what license class.
Its a matter of using the data for a purpose, not coming out with a seperate database which contains the same data or a system just for the sake of having one.
An excel-smart person will laugh hard…very hard. Might as well hired this guy and pay him 10-20% from that millions u will spend for that database or system.
Seat belt enforement tak buat lagi sudah nak buat system baru. Do the basic first.
