Kejara driving license demerit point system has failed, needs complete overhaul to address loopholes – Loke

The Kejara driving license demerit points system has failed and needs to be overhauled, said Malaysian transport minister Anthony Loke.

While the Kejara demerit points system continues to be active, the system has not been functioning as intended. This is because the demerit points are only deducted for an offence when the summons is settled, and drivers who have been issued summonses for their traffic violations have not had points deducted simply by not settling their summonses, Loke said.

“This overhaul is aimed at addressing the current loophole, where many drivers avoid penalties simply by not settling their fines. The overhaul will ensure prompt and consistent enforcement so that the offending drivers are held accountable without unnecessary delay,” the transport minister said.

The Kejara demerit points system was integrated with AES as part of the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS), which went online in April 2017, after the Kejara demerit points system was announced for its return in 2015 following its suspension in 2011; Kejara was originally introduced in 1984.

Aiyoyo… Kejara only deduct points when people pay summons. please lah who is the smart guys introduced such method. malaysian dont pay fine until there is discount galore offered by police. very wrong !!!
jpj have a bundle of data which mot can use to catch transport companies that don’t pay road tax for their vehicles. no need wait until roadblock to catch. the big data not used correctly.. what a waste !!!

There is really nothing to overhaul. It’s the minister that has failed miserably…lack of enforcement. All sorts of excuses. Look at our neighbour down south…who dares break the (traffic) law there…enforcement swift and quick.

Here?…another mamak teh tarik story to goes by.

My god…its so hard to change how the points are deducted until a minister had to decided the system needs a complete overhaul.

Its like tearing down an engine to be rebuild when the air filter is dirty.

    Markah? Apa tu?
You datang Jalan Kelang Lama, depan Tan Boon Ming hingga Scott Garden.
Motosikal lalu lawan arus, itu pihak berkuasa nampak pun tak ambil tindakan padahal orang yang duduk kereta tekan/pegang talifon bimbit laju kejar.
    LOL.
    Selective prosecution.
