Additional signage prohibiting motorcyclists from entering the Udini Underpass on Jalan Masjid Negeri in Penang have been installed, according to a Facebook post by Seri Delima memeber of the Penang state legislative assembly Connie Tan.
The additional signposts and road markings supplement the existing rule prohibiting motorcyclists travelling along Jalan Masjid Negeri from entering the underpass, and those intending to continue their journey along Jalan Masjid Negeri are to keep left and remain at ground level, to enter the Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah roundabout before continuing onwards.
The reminder of the existing rule on this stretch of road comes after a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred on February 12 this year in the underpass, when a motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle, crossed the double white lines and crashed into an oncoming car.
Tan thanked the Penang Island city council (MBPP) for the action taken by the council, following the last convening of the Penang state legislative assembly when the Seri Delima ADUN raised the matter of frequently occurring crashes in the Udini Underpass, especially those involving motorcyclists.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
They already had signage even before these new ones, but certain motorcyclists still chose to take the underpass because they don’t have to wait at the roundabout… and they usually speed up to try and overtake cars going into a blind corner.
Good effort by MBPP, but I doubt it’ll change a thing day-to-day without enforcement.
Work meh?LDP also ma even got motor lane they don’t even care, highway below 125-150cc can’t use also don’t have because thanx to ex pm bias because need their votes haha
We have those signboard in LDP
More than 30years or so
But anyone care ?
Stubborn motorcyclist met fatal accident around these tunnel roads all classified as “Mati Katak” not entitled to insurance claim or traffic law protection wokay hahaha
Lack of enforcement…how?!
One can install as many signboards…but with practically no enforcement…or rather hanghat tahi ayam enforcement…it’s practically useless…waste of tax payers’ money to install signboards and reminder signs…but still the same old thing happening again.
