Grab Malaysia has announced the addition of electric vehicles (EV) to its ride-hailing service with the introduction of an airport EV fleet exclusively for passengers travelling from KLIA. The new service was launched today by transport minister Anthony Loke.
The fleet, which is made up of 10 BYD M6 all-electric MPVs, is available for booking as one of the options through the Grap app, which lists door 4, Level 3 (the main arrival hall) as the pick-up point for the service, as opposed to Level 1 for the standard ride-hailing.
The company said that it had established an EV lounge at the terminal as an additional feature for users of the premium service, which costs slightly more than a regular six-seat ride option. For example, a ride from the airport to the city centre will cost about RM134, as opposed to RM105 for a regular six-seater.
Loke said the Grab initiative supports the government’s various efforts to improve the quality of the transportation system at the country’s main gateway.
“The selection of KLIA as the launch location is very strategic, not only because of the high volume of passenger traffic, but also because it provides maximum exposure to domestic and international consumers about Malaysia’s efforts in strengthening green mobility,” he said in his speech.
The new KLIA EV ride-hailing service is the result of Grab’s collaboration with BYD Sime Motors, Yinson Green Technologies (YGT) and Singapore-based EV charging service provider Power-Up Tech, which was inked in March. Under the partnership, YGT will provide Grab with comprehensive leasing packages for EVs in addition to a suite of electrification solutions.

It is good initiative for e-hailing to use EV. In China most e-hailing vehicles are EV. E-hailing cars are always running on the road and using EV will save environment. Don’t ever said our electricity generated by fossil fuel is not green. Most countries in the world are using same method and few applied nuclear power. Hydro, solar and wind turbine are green energy but they are very limited and will never able to supply enough electricty.
Those who bark RM134 is expensive for EV e-hailing, mind you that the limousine Proton Persona cost is around RM120.
y give this grab ev priority in airport? and it is not reasonably priced as well. The car is small 6 seater, just slightly bigger than alza maybe? And Ev supposingly cheaper to run than ice car? y more expensive than normal 6s? grab shld use ev for short distance job in city, make more sense
All these marketing gimmick.
As if i’ll pay double for it.
