Grab has begun trialling an autonomous electric shuttle bus in a six-month long pilot project in Singapore. During the period, the bus will provide first- and last-mile commutes for Grab employees over a 3.9 km-long fixed route from the company’s one-north office with the nearby one-north Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station.
Working in collaboration with Autonomous A2Z (A2Z), a Korean full-stack autonomous vehicle technology company, Grab has fitted the BYD electric mini bus with A2Z’s autonomous software and hardware alongside Grab’s Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Equipped with 11 sensors, including LiDAR, radar and cameras, the autonomous shuttle has a 360-degree view of its surroundings, enabling it to detect and safely manoeuvre around new objects and sudden obstacles. During the trials, a trained safety operator will be present in the driver’s seat at all times to ensure passenger safety and smooth operation.
Prior to its deployment, the autonomous shuttle underwent over 100 hours of tests over the route, collecting information such as road infrastructure, traffic lights, lane markings and detecting pedestrians, vehicles and obstacles. Data annotation, which involved labelling objects with attributes such as size, speed and direction, was also carried out.
The shuttle has been programmed to proactively respond to real-world scenarios, such as stopping at zebra crossings, traffic lights and fine-tuning driving controls for a smooth ride experience. If an issue with the sensors or systems is detected, the in-built safety algorithm will ensure the bus comes to a safe and complete stop.
The autonomous shuttle will operate for two hours daily during off-peak periods, with additional hours dedicated to training and tech work. Grab and A2Z stated that they will closely monitor ride performance and safety outcomes before opening up more time slots.
Grab employees can track the shuttle schedule, vehicle location and, in the future, seat availability directly from the Grab app. Onboard KartaDashcam devices will detect onboard passenger numbers and capture live images of vehicle location, which will then be synced with the Grab app, providing employees with the latest information.

not suitable for the majority of msian roads. road condition, blur lines, parked cars, bikes, etc etc
Far away pick-up points. Fare not compensated for traffic/time. Extremely low fare! No compensations for Cancellations of bookings. Auto-Accept is ridiculous!! Incorrect pickup/drop-off locations. 5 mins waiting time is not justified. No phone communications to confirm details with passengers. Helpdesk is unsatisfactory. Poor treatment to Driver “PARTNERS”! The GRAB navigation app is slow, laggy and inaccurate, Grab Punishes drivers and riders for just one mistake. I can go on and on and on. Only Grab Drivers and Riders will understand the pains and struggles just to earn few dollars to survive.
Even today, Grab Holdings is burning cash on Grab Adds, Grab events, EV Robotaxis and more. The Top People in Grab Holdings especially the CEO Anthony Tan and CFO Peter Oey don’t know how to spend the company’s money. But of course, the Top People in Grab Holdings won’t tell the public about their spendings, losses and debts.
Grab Holdings may still be in business but if it wasn’t for it’s shareholders Uber Technologies , Inc , Sb Investment Advisers (uk) Ltd , Toyota Motor Corp , MUFG Bank Ltd. , Morgan Stanley, BlackRock , Inc. , Tiger Global Management Llc , Invesco Ltd. and Marshall Wace that invested in Grab , Grab Holdings wouldn’t have survived.
Just because the Top People in Grab Holdings said they company is performing well And they are now profitable doesn’t mean they are ACTUALLY profitable. I may not be a smart person and may not be born in a rich family, but I can tell the young people these few things:
1. Corporations will try a lot of ways to inflate their sales, demands and share prices….to fool investors and shareholders into thinking that the company is doing well.
2. Corporations will always spread positive news about the company, but behind those Closed-doors and all the Hype, the company can be burning too much cash on unnecessary products or services, may be laying off workers and employees and worst…. trying to hide their losses and debts. Because let’s be honest…..there is NO such thing as a Debtless company. All companies will make losses and will have debts.
But of course, the Top People in Grab Holdings will only show the positives, but they don’t show people the negatives…..of what is Actually going on in Grab. Layoffs, bad reputation, bad treatment to Grab drivers and hiding their losses and have high amount of debts.
