The road transport department (JPJ) has taken disciplinary action against one of its officers for driving a departmental vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner. This comes following a dashcam video uploaded on social media which showed a JPJ vehicle being driven in an improper manner on July 9 in Simpang Pulai, Perak.
The clip showed a JPJ-liveried Honda CR-V on the wrong side of a two-way road during an attempt to overtake traffic on a bend clearly indicated with a solid double-line lane marking, resulting in a near-miss with the dashcam vehicle that was approaching from the opposite direction.
Stating that it viewed the incident seriously, the department said in a statement that it had taken strict action by issuing a summons to the officer for the offence and prohibiting the officer from driving any departmental vehicle.
It said that it is taking follow-up steps to conduct further investigation into other possible traffic offences involving the officer, and added that instructions have been given for the officer to be suspended from duties and placed in an office position at the JPJ headquarters until the investigation is completed.
The department said it would take strict action against any road users who commit traffic offences, including its own members and staff, and called on the public to report complaints directly or in real time if they saw anyone not complying with the prescribed road regulations, doing so via e-aduan@jpj on the MyJPJ app or via email at [email protected] along with complete details of the complaint.
