Geely has announced the launch of the EX5 electric SUV in Vietnam, where the Proton eMas 7 twin goes on sale in two variants – the Pro, priced at 839 million VND (RM136,302), and the Max, priced at 889 million VND (RM144,437).
As with other markets such as Indonesia and the Proton eMas 7 that is sold in Malaysia, the EX5 in Vietnam is powered by a single 218 PS/320 Nm electric motor that propels the SUV from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 175 km/h.
Brief information from the Geely Vietnam website shows a selection of the features found in the EX5 for the Vietnamese market, including a head-up display, 540-degree camera suite, Parking Radar Max, voice control, and over-the-air software update capability.
Battery specifications can be expected to mirror that of the EX5 in other markets, namely a 49.52 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery providing up to 345 km of range (WLTP), and a 60.22 kWh battery good for up to 410 km (WLTP).
In Vietnam, the Geely EX5 is sold with a five-year, 150,000 km warranty along with a 2.2 kW portable charger, as well as a 7 kW home wall-mounted charger, the latter also with complimentary installation. This mirrors the promotional package offered in Indonesia, where customers also get an OEM accessories package and 0% interest for one year, or a subsidy on home charger installation.
In January, Geely announced that it will open a manufacturing plant in Vietnam as part of its localised manufacturing plans in several markets, which has seen the establishment of the Bekasi, West Jawa plant where vehicles will be produced for the Indonesian market.
Output from this manufacturing facility is to serve the domestic Vietnamese market, as well as left-hand-drive export markets. Customer vehicles are to emerge from the Vietnam plant from early 2026, which means that Vietnamese units of the EX5 will be imported to begin with.
Meanwhile for Malaysia, the Proton eMas 7 received a batch of updates for the 2025 model year, among them wired and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, an update to the Flyme Auto operating system that now offers better responsiveness, smoother integration, and support for more third party apps, as well as enabling drivers to retain their last-used settings. Also included now is a tonneau cover as standard, which will be offered to existing eMas 7 owners soon.
