Bridgestone Malaysia has launched the Bridgestone Turanza 6, the brand’s flagship touring tyre that effectively replaces the Turanza T005A that we first tested in 2018. The well-balanced T005A has been a popular OE pick, factory-fitted on cars from the Perodua Ativa (very generous of P2) to the Toyota Camry and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
Bridgestone says that the Turanza 6 – which rivals the Michelin Primacy 5 and Continental CC7 in the market – ‘redefines comfort for passenger cars’, and being strong in areas like noise and low rolling resistance also means that it’s suitable for EVs. More on this ‘EV readiness’ later.
Every new tyre is better than its predecessor, and Bridgestone chose to focus on improving quietness, ride comfort and wet grip over the T005A. The claims are 8% reduction in noise levels, 8% better ride comfort and a 14% improvement in wet grip over its predecessor, achieved via ‘groundbreaking innovations’ in compound, tread pattern, and even tyre shape. Bridgestone now lumps its tech under the ‘Enliten’ umbrella branding.
Without a combustion engine to move the car, other noises become more apparent in EVs, and this is where the Turanza 6’s quietness comes into play.
It’s not that efficiency isn’t important in ICE cars, but it’s vital in EVs where every kilometre is precious, as chargers aren’t as common as petrol stations. Bridgestone says that the T6’s low rolling resistance extends range and addresses range anxiety concerns, while its enhanced wear tolerance combats the increased weight and torque of EVs. These features make the T6 a more versatile tyre than the T005A, the company says.
Perhaps not as important to typical Malaysian customers than the tyremaker itself, Bridgestone says that the T6 was developed with sustainability in mind – compared to the T005A, the T6 reduces newly sourced raw material usage during production, with a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions at the raw material stage. The improved rolling resistance decreases energy consumption while driving, leading to a 13% reduction in CO2 emissions per km during the use stage.
“This new flagship tyre combines exceptional performance with sustainability-focused features, showcasing Bridgestone’s dedication to advancing safety, innovation, and environmental responsibility in the premium tyre segment. We are confident that the Turanza 6 will change what drivers can expect of a luxurious, comfortable and quiet driving experience,” said Michael Chung, MD of Bridgestone Malaysia.
The Bridgestone Turanza is available in our market with a size range of 14 to 21 inches for passenger cars, priced from RM340. An intro promo offers a free 2-in-1 convertible pillow blanket with the purchase of four tyres in a single receipt.
