JPJ seizes another 53 vehicles for various traffic offences in Ops Luxury 2.0 – no road tax, insurance

Following the success of its Ops Luxury operation in June, where it seized 101 luxury vehicles linked to various traffic offences, the road transport department (JPJ) has made another haul, netting 53 luxury and exotic vehicles in Ops Luxury 2.0. According to JPJ senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, the operation was conducted from July 30 until today, August 1.

Among the vehicles seized in the latest round are a Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, which is reportedly owned by a well-known local businessman, the New Straits Times reports. The batch of detained vehicles also includes a Lamborghini Huracan Performante, an Urus SUV, an Aston Martin DBX and a BMW i8.

As was the case previously in the earlier round, all the vehicles were seized for the usual traffic law violations, including having expired road tax (LKM), no valid vehicle insurance and unregistered number plates. One of the vehicles seized, a Mercedes-Benz, had been driven on the road without valid road tax or insurance since 2022.

During the operation, the department also detected three vehicles driven by foreigners without valid driver’s licences. One of the drivers was carrying an international driving permit, which upon further checks was revealed to be fake. “The man claimed he purchased the document in Dubai for RM5,000,” Kifli said.

“Based on our observations, many of the vehicle owners claimed they simply forgot to renew their road tax and insurance. What they are actually doing is making a mockery of our road rules,” he said. As it was with the earlier operation, all the vehicles seized are currently being held at JPJ impound depots for investigation and further action under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and relevant regulations.

since the offender must be someone in the T5 category, they will feel entitled to be jailed in a resort instead.
It is better to make it mandatory for offender to do FREE trash collection, or other sewage tank related for minimum one year. or any other hard job they never imagined will be doing.

easy, with no insurance and no road tax, in case of accident the police can only slap them with meager RM300 fine. the other party/victim can’t claim anything.
a serious loophole in the system.
