Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia may have already teased two new models for its Omoda & Jaecoo Carnival, but a new spyshot suggests that yet another new car is in the works. Rick Tan posted a photo of two yet-to-be-launched SUVs – sighted in SS15, Subang Jaya – on the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook, and while the badges were covered, there’s no ambiguity as to their identity.
The distinctive zig-zag taillights make it very clear – you’re looking at the Omoda C7, a new C-segment SUV that slots between the Chery Omoda 5 (soon just the Chery C5) and the Omoda C9, complementing the more rugged Jaecoo J7. It was previously shown at the Malaysia Autoshow just this May (it’s also been spied on the North-South Highway), and the company is already accepting registrations of interest on its website, so a launch is definitely on the cards.
While the car was first shown in Bangkok in March as a plug-in hybrid, the C7 will likely be sold initially in pure petrol form, as it is in Russia. There, the car is powered by the J7’s 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, detuned to 150 PS at 5,500 rpm and 275 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm (other markets should get the full 197 PS and 290 Nm). Drive is sent either to the front or all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The PHEV, meanwhile, should share its Super Hybrid System (SHS) with the J7 PHEV. This consists of a hybrid-specific 156 PS/220 Nm 1.5 litre turbo four-pot as well as a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Total system output is rated at 360 PS and 530 Nm, which is 13 PS and 5 Nm more than the J7 PHEV.
Despite the extra power, the C7 PHEV gets from zero to 100 km/h in exactly the same time as the J7 PHEV at 8.5 seconds. The BYD-sourced 18.3 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is identical to its sibling’s and delivers 95 km of all-electric range, according to initial specs posted last year. Those specs also include a total range of 1,250 km.
Highlights include a Lexus RX-style body-coloured hexagonal grille pattern, the unique “Design ID” signature lighting pattern integrated into the front bumper corners, a gamepad-inspired two-spoke steering wheel design and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that can be slid over to the passenger side.
Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia will also be previewing the smaller Jaecoo J5 and the Omoda C9 PHEV at the aforementioned carnival in Desa Park City from August 21 to 24. Will we see all three cars launch this year? We doubt it, but we won’t have to wait long to find out.

lmao.. lame strategy dumping all kind sub brand and mini difference segment cars by this Chery … 15 years ago Chery is still the same Chery today.. lousy quality
The illusion of choices
I would recommend Omoda C7 over outgoing XTrail.
Never try before, then no need bother to bark please, sales volume speaks confidence. There is a reason why Chery is top 1 car exporter in China, outselling BYD in worldwide
After review of bad handling from reviewers, I do not intend to buy C9 anymore. This C7 guess will be the same.
In the past Chery has been bad reputation. But over the year they have improved a lot and now they are sitting in 233rd spot of Fortune 500. They are also the largest Chinese car export among all Chinese brands. They are aiming on overseas market rather than only focusing on domestic market.
Btw one thing Chery is not really doing well. They launched many models and sub brands in very short time. They have now Chery, Omoda Jaecoo, Jetour and soon going to launch Lepas in Malaysia market. The biggest dilemma is Omada, it is actually a single sub brand but in Malaysia market this brand some model attached to Chery and some attached on Omoda Jaecoo. Omoda 5 is under Chery while Omoda C9 under Jaecoo. Weird
C9 is the biggest mistake made as it actually belong to Jaecoo instead of Omoda if you check car in China market. However, the rest of the Cherry sub-brands (Cherry, Jetour) are almost identical to China due to China consumer market are wide spread and the company need to group their product to penetrate into different level of markets. But in MY we are not as complicated as in China though..
The handling of these cars are poor, have the J7, while marginally better then the c9 collectively all the china cars I have tested comes nowhere close the to the x50 or x70. I also notice articles about these cars talk less on the suspension and handling, all about cosmetics and powertrain only.
Bro, I thought I agreed your statement until I saw you put “nowhere close the to the x50 or x70”. I can guarantee 100% sure the X50 is sampan feeling just like any other Chinese car out there. The handling of X50 is rubbish with no steering feedback and driving little quick in corner the body roll is terrible. My family own one X50 FS.
