The Lepas brand will officially land in Malaysia in the first half of next year, Chery Corporate Malaysia has revealed to Malaysian media at the ongoing 2025 Chery International User Summit at its headquarters in Wuhu, China.
The Lepas model that will lead the brand’s entry into the Malaysian market has yet to be determined, however Chery Corporate Malaysia has indicated a preference for the L8, presently the largest model from Lepas, to maximise the distinction between itself and other SUV products from the Chery and Omoda | Jaecoo brands.
There has yet to be indicative Malaysian pricing for the L8. Other models within the Lepas line-up presently consists of the L6, a C-segment SUV, and the L4, the smallest of the trio, targeting the A0 segment.
With the Lepas brand officially launched earlier this year at Auto Shanghai 2025 following its initial introduction in October last year as a brand that is aimed at the “next-generation urban elites focusing on family,”, the first Lepas vehicle to roll off the production line was the L8, which rolled out in April this year.
The Lepas L8 is a two-row, five-seater SUV that will get a range of powertrain types, including a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol inline-four cylinder plug-in hybrid. This outputs 279 PS and 365 Nm, driving the front wheels through a stepless DHT transmission.
Early details on the Lepas L8 state that the five-seater model will get a 18.4 kWh LFP battery, which is claimed to be a newer iteration of the 18.3 kWh LFP unit found in the Tiggo 8 PHEV.
Models under the Lepas banner are designed following what the company calls ‘Leopard Aesthetic’, and the Lepas brand name is a fusion of the words ‘leap’ and ‘passion’. An example of how the name is pronounced is found in official Lepas International communication here.

looks like chery want to copy VAG strategy of many brands – Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini
Kelakar namanya.
Enough is enough. Nothing great and keep bringing in low quality products
U know some is better quality than jepunis crap? Dont stay in the cave, open your mind
Better quality? I hope you are joking. China cars have not even proven themselves and you wanna talk about quality while Japanese cars are still holding value 12 years down the line and producing real quality. Pipe down China cuck
please stop any more of this generic chery stuff from reaching our shores
Just imagine what the warranty will be called
Lepas beli x ada servis
Kalau cinta, Lepas.

alah, terlepas la.
Apparently the name’s supposed to be a portmanteau of “leap” and “passion”.
So…it’s pronounced “lipas” then. Got it.
China never ceases to produce utter garbage, all in the name of “world dominance”. How pathetic. Yet another stupidly-named, blatant copy-cat-of-western-brand vehicle that will turn to rust after a few years. And malaysians will keep defending this crap because they’re too cheap and poor to buy real luxury.
