The Ipoh city council (MBI) has received a RM20 million allocation for the resurfacing of 400 roads in residential areas, according to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, reported The Star.
This allocation, the highest allocation to a local authority in the country, was approved by the prime minister, and will cover repairs of roads in five parliamentary constituencies. These are Tambun, Gopeng, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah. All five are under the maintenance jurisdiction of MBI, the report wrote.
The road resurfacing works are expected to begin soon, and be completed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said the housing and local government minister.
“Under the leadership of the mayor, the council will ensure that contractors are selected based on competitive cost-benefit analyses, prioritising quality work. This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the living environment for residents,” Nga said.
Nationally, it would cost RM4 billion to repair all damaged roads in the country, and so the Malaysian government will prioritise the repairs of critically damaged roads, works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said in June this year.

No only road resurfacing works but also redraw road line marking as most of the main road and residential areas are missing or gone, not safe especially at night and rainy time.
MBI after each road resurfacing job please send your officers to check the work quality by your elected sub cons, if not up to standard kindly tell them to redo, otherwise it’ll only last 3 weeks and then potholes will reappear. Please….!
Nga mentri transport of ipoh kah? Why all the money & upgrades go to there, other states no need ke?
Is Nga transport minister of perak? If so please resign NOW and go become ipoh minister!!!
Prioritise critacally damage road….hmmmm.
Thats too general.
What if the road is damage but not critical…imagine a sunk in road surface but there is no holes yet. The sunk in portion is where car tires mostly contact the road. When it rains, the tire contact path becomes swimming pool. No need to repair right? as its not critically damage…..
Is Nga transport minister of Perak? If so please resign NOW and go become ipoh minister!!!
The roads which need maintenance were said to be in housing areas, and those housing areas are under the jurisdiction of MBI, which is itself a local government like the other district, town and city councils. Therefore, it should be no surprise if the housing & local government ministry is meant to allocate funds to repair and maintain such roads. You call yourself ‘Rakyat Malaysia’ but you don’t appear to understand how the Malaysian public sector is being administered at the different local, state and federal levels, and you end up babbling about some non-existent imaginary government position like the transport minister of Ipoh or Perak.
