The MG 4 is a C-segment electric hatchback with five seats, a single-ratio automatic and three power/range choices. It suits buyers who want more than a basic city EV, with the range starting from RM100,888. At entry, it costs more than the BYD Dolphin, Dongfeng Box, Neta V, Wuling Bingo and Proton eMas 5.

In Malaysia, the MG 4 carries on into 2026 unchanged from the 2024 launch line-up, with Lux, EXTD Range and XPOWER variants. The 2026 MG 4 activity is overseas: Thailand gets the revised MG 4/Urban with a new interior and LFP batteries, while China previews MG 4-related semi-solid-state battery models. None of that is a confirmed Malaysian MG 4 update, so the local spec remains the existing three-car range.

The MG 4 is the sportier but flawed alternative to the BYD Dolphin in the entry-level EV hatchback space. Its Malaysian price positioning is plain: the base car costs slightly more than the Dolphin, Neta V and Dongfeng Box, and far more than the Proton eMas 5 and Wuling Bingo. What it gives back is range breadth, with the long-distance EXTD Range and the 429 hp XPOWER, rather than the lowest possible EV entry cost.
