Golf GTI in 2026 — what's new
For 2026, the Golf GTI Mk8.5 range continues with one regular DSG variant. The latest Malaysian update is a 50-unit run with Huntsville Adamantium Dark alloy wheels at no extra cost. The facelifted GTI made its Malaysia debut at ACE 2025 alongside the 1.5L eTSI R-Line, with new tech and the return of physical buttons. A Sepang Edition also appeared in 2025 as a separate special edition.

The GTI carries a heavy badge. Earlier Golfs set a high bar, with the Mk2, Mk5 and Mk7 often treated as reference points by loyalists, so the Mk8.5 has more to do than simply add power. The Malaysian car has 261 hp and a wet dual-clutch gearbox, which puts the focus on accessible performance in a usable hatchback. It costs more than a regular Golf, MG 4, Mazda 3 Hatchback and Nissan Leaf, but less than a Renault Megane RS.
