The Mk8.5 Golf R arrives in Malaysia in 2026 as a CKD model, following the earlier CKD car that was on sale with 320 PS/400 Nm and the R Performance package. The current update brings a 333 PS 2.0T and larger infotainment. The range is simple: one 4Motion hatchback with a wet dual-clutch automatic and five seats. The 400 PS/500 Nm five-cylinder version is a 2027 top variant, not the 2026 Malaysian car.

The Golf R is not the cheapest fast C-segment hatchback here. It costs more than the Renault Megane RS at RM279,888, but less than the Toyota GR Corolla at RM368,950 and Honda Civic Type R at RM399,900. Its case is clear: 329 hp, 4Motion and a wet dual-clutch automatic in a Golf-sized hatch. The Mk8.5 update adds the newer 333 PS 2.0T package and larger infotainment, but the price still sits deep in performance-car territory.
