The Peugeot 408 is a C-segment fastback sedan launched in Malaysia in 2024, with a 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine, an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive across the range. It suits buyers who want the 215 hp mechanical package in a less conventional body than the usual sedan shape. Prices start from RM146,055 for the Allure.

For 2026, the Malaysia-market 408 remains the locally assembled P54 range with Allure, Premium and GT, all using the 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine and eight-speed automatic. A facelifted 408 has debuted with 1.6 litre plug-in hybrid, 1.2 litre three-cylinder hybrid and e-408 electric powertrains with 456 km WLTP range, but those are not in the Malaysian range. Gurun-built 408s are also exported to Taiwan, with the plant supplying Thailand and Cambodia.

The 408’s case starts with its good-looking fastback body and a common mechanical package across all three variants: 215 hp, 300 Nm and an eight-speed automatic. But it is not a bargain play. Proton S70, BYD Seal 6, Aion ES, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla all start lower, so the Peugeot makes most sense if the shape and cabin specification matter more than having the lowest entry price.
