Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The smart #1 is a five-seat B-segment electric SUV introduced in Malaysia in 2023. It suits buyers moving from a premium petrol compact SUV who want a compact EV with 268 hp in Pro and Premium form, or 422 hp in the Brabus. Prices start from RM169,000.

#1 in 2026 — what's new

No 2026-specific smart #1 update is announced, so the model carries into 2026 unchanged. The Malaysian line-up remains the Pro, Premium and Brabus. Recent 2025 activity centres on ACE deals and a Brabus Limited Edition, which gets a 35 mm lower ride height, 19-inch alloys and a bodykit. The regular Pro and Premium have 268 hp, while Brabus has 422 hp.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should choose the Premium at RM209,000. It has the same 268 hp as the RM169,000 Pro, but its 66 kWh battery lifts range from 315 km to 440 km; the RM40,000 gap is substantial, but the extra 125 km is the practical reason to step up. The Brabus costs RM249,000. Pay the further RM40,000 only if 422 hp matters more than its 400 km range.

Verdict

The #1 is an interesting Malaysian EV, particularly in Premium form, where the 66 kWh battery and 440 km range give it a clear usability advantage over Pro. But it is not priced as a budget B-segment EV: even Pro costs more than the RM159,948 Xpeng G6 and RM158,800 Zeekr X, while the Perodua QV-E begins at RM80,000. Brabus is for performance, not range.
