Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The smart #1 is a B-segment electric SUV with five seats, sold in Malaysia since 2023. It suits buyers moving from a compact petrol SUV into an EV but still wanting a premium-leaning cabin and stronger performance than the cheapest electric SUVs. Prices start at RM169,000 for the Pro.

#1 in 2026 — what's new

In 2026, the smart #1 carries on unchanged with three regular variants: Pro, Premium and Brabus. The Pro has a 49 kWh battery and 315 km range, while the Premium moves to a 66 kWh battery and 440 km range. The Brabus keeps the 66 kWh battery, cuts range to 400 km and raises output to 422 hp. A Brabus Limited Edition also opened for booking in Malaysia in 2025 with a 35 mm lower stance, 19-inch alloys and bodykit.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should pick the Premium at RM209,000. The RM40,000 gap over the RM169,000 Pro buys a larger 66 kWh battery and a much longer 440 km range, while output stays at 268 hp. Choose the Pro only if 315 km is enough and keeping the price down matters most. The RM249,000 Brabus is for buyers who want 422 hp; it has the same 66 kWh battery as the Premium but a shorter 400 km range.

Verdict

The smart #1 is not the cheap end of the electric SUV field. The Zeekr X starts from RM158,800 and the Xpeng G6 from RM159,948, both below the #1’s RM169,000 entry price. What the smart brings is a distinctive design, quick charging appeal and a range structure that makes the Premium the sensible centre point. The Brabus adds serious power, but gives away range versus the Premium.
