The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is an all-new, larger third-generation SUV in Malaysia. It arrives as a CBU import from Japan with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. The launch range has two 2.5G High variants, both rated at 185 hp and seating five. ADAS is part of the new model’s headline equipment. Local assembly with 60% local content is due by mid-2027.
Which variant to buy
Most buyers should take the 2.5G High NR at RM168,510. It has the same 2,488 cc petrol engine, 185 hp output, front-wheel drive, automatic transmission and five-seat layout as the 2.5G High. The RM3,000 step to the RM171,510 2.5G High does not buy different mechanicals on paper, so check the equipment list before spending more. Pick the High only if its trim-specific items matter to you.
Verdict
The third-generation CX-5 gives Mazda a fresh C-segment SUV rather than another update of the outgoing design. Its 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, automatic gearbox and front-wheel-drive layout are straightforward, while ADAS is a useful part of the package. At RM168,510, it costs far more than the Proton eMas 7, Proton X70 and Jetour Dashing, but sits close to the smart #1 and Peugeot 3008.
