Seems the iCaur 03/Jaecoo J6 will also wear Chery badges in China – Car News China reports, citing a Chinese ministry of industry and information technology filing, that these would be called the Chery X3 and X3 Plus, based respectively on the iCaur 03 and 03T (the latter being more premium and sportier, with a slightly more aggressive face).

The 1.8-1.9-tonne Chery X3’s length, width, height and wheelbase are respectively 4,327 mm, 1,910 mm, 1,715 mm and 2,715 mm – the iCaur 03 is 79 mm longer, but all other dimensions are the same. As for the 1.7-tonne Chery X3 Plus, that’s 4,380 mm long, 1,916 mm wide, 1,715 mm tall and sits on a 2,715 mm wheelbase, so it’s 52 mm shorter and 26 mm lower than the iCaur 03T.

CNC further reports that both the Chery X3 and X3 Plus have a 252 PS electric motor, a 150 km/h top speed, 26-degree approach and 28-degree departure angles, and 18- or 19-inch alloys covered in 245/55 and 225/60 rubber respectively. The publication also cites Chinese social media in revealing that the X3 Plus has a Gotion 68.36 kWh LFP battery that yields a 520 km CLTC range.

These differ slightly from the iCaur 03, which has 184 PS and a 65.7 kWh battery if you go for the RWD, or 279 PS and a 69.8 kWh battery if you pick the AWD – at least in global markets including Malaysia. Looks wise, based on these images posted by CNC, I think the Chery logo integrates more cleanly into the grille here than on the more funky iCaur – it’s a more classic look, if you will. What do you think?

iCaur (pronounced ‘iCar’, which is the original name in China) is a brand under the Chery umbrella that was born from a collaboration with Xiaomi subsidiary Zhimi Technology (also known as Smartmi Tech). It made its Malaysian debut at the recently-concluded Malaysia Autoshow 2025, where it displayed the 03, 03T and V23.

Of the three, the 03 will launch first, expected to arrive in Malaysia in the third quarter of this year. Registrations of interest are open, and estimated prices are RM145k for the RWD and RM155k for the AWD.

  • Jaecoo J6 on test in Malaysia; EV SUV to debut soon?

Jaecoo J6 on test in Malaysia; EV SUV to debut soon?

The Jaecoo J6 had its first Malaysian showing in May 2024 at the Malaysia Autoshow that year, and now we’ve sighted the battery-electric SUV on Malaysian roads, specifically on the KESAS highway. Known in China as the iCar 03 (iCar is another Chery sub-brand), the J6 is due to launch in Malaysia this year, and its latest on-road sighting suggests it may be soon.

This is a short, but tall and wide SUV, measuring 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,715 mm tall with a 2,715 mm wheelbase, and along with its boxy design cues, has hints of Land Rover Defender about it. Here, rolling stock appears to be of the two-tone alloy wheel design as seen on the Singapore display unit, which are 19-inch wheels in 225/55R19 tyres.

The right-hand-drive market version of the J6 such as the one in Singapore packs a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric powertrain delivering 279 PS and 385 Nm of torque. These draw from a 69.77 kWh BYD Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and is rated for 345 km of range on the WTLP testing standard. Conversely, a 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function also features on the Singapore-market model.

Beyond the dual-motor AWD version, other markets get the J6 in RWD form with a single 184 PS/220 Nm motor, drawing from a 65.69 kWh LFP battery that yields up to 371 km of range on the WLTP testing standard.

In terms of equipment, the cabin of the SG-spec J6 will pack a 9.2-inch instrument display for the driver, along with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. Smartphone connectivity is supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, joined by a voice assistant, a cooled 50 W Qi wireless device charger, panoramic glass roof and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.

For safety and assistance systems, the Jaecoo J6 gets autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, a front departure alert, rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert and a door opening warning. Also standard are eight airbags and stability control.

When it launches in Malaysia, the J6 will bring a battery-electric entry to the brand, joining the plug-in hybrid offering that is the J7 PHEV that was launched in Malaysia in February this year (check out our review of the J7 PHEV here).

  • 2025 Jaecoo J6 in Singapore – boxy EV SUV with up to 279 PS, 342 km range, coming to Malaysia this year

2025 Jaecoo J6 in Singapore – boxy EV SUV with up to 279 PS, 342 km range, coming to Malaysia this year

During the recent Jaecoo J7 PHEV fuel efficiency drive, we spotted the Jaecoo J6 at the Omoda & Jaecoo showroom in Singapore. The funky boxy electric SUV was open for booking in the island nation last week and its presence at the outlet gave us an opportunity to take a closer look.

Revealed in China back in 2023 as the iCar 03 (iCar is yet another Chery sub-brand), the J6 is quite a bit shorter than the J7. It measures just 4,406 mm long but a massive 1,910 mm wide and 1,715 mm tall, while its wheelbase is a generous 2,715 mm long.

The tall and wide stance gives the J6 a quasi-4×4 appearance not too dissimilar to the Land Rover Defender. The visual connection to the latter is heightened by the boxy design, chunky wheel arch extensions, upright wraparound glasshouse, black roof and even the sideways-opening tailgate.

Adding a bit of funk to the styling are the tessellated “i” daytime running lights and taillights (a nod to the iCar brand), the former joining the slim headlight/grille bar. The Singapore model gets the illuminated “i” front badge (rather than the usual chrome “Jaecoo” script) and the sizeable 40 litre rear storage “backpack”, which us Malaysians have been promised will get.

This is our first proper look at the interior of a right-hand-drive J6, with the Land Rover cues continuing in the distinctive green-and-black colour scheme, large grab handles on the centre console and door cards, copious amounts of metallic silver trim and even exposed Allen bolt heads.

As befits a Chinese car these days, there’s tech aplenty, including a 9.2-inch digital instrument display and a huge 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. You also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a voice assistant, a cooled 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a panoramic glass roof and a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.

Standard kit in Singapore include automatic LED head- and taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels with aero fairings, roof rails, keyless entry and start, six-way driver’s and four-way passenger-side power-adjustable seats with ventilation and massage functions, faux leather upholstery an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a 360-degree camera and a 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

You of course also get a full complement of driver assists that include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, a front departure alert, rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert and a door opening warning. Eight airbags and stability control come standard.

Jaecoo has taken another book out of the Land Rover playbook by giving the J6 an all-aluminium structure, but beaten the storied British brand with an all-electric powertrain. The car you see here is the all-wheel-drive version – the only variant currently offered in Singapore – with dual motors delivering a total system output of 279 PS (205 kW) and 385 Nm of torque.

These motors are juiced by a 69.77 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD. Despite the decent capacity, modest outputs and scant (by EV standards) 1,879 kg kerb weight, the WLTP-rated range is fairly poor at just 345 km combined, presumably due to the blocky aerodynamics. The same car in Thailand has slightly more range at 364 km, which still isn’t spectacular.

Charging speeds are also fairly low, with DC fast charging capped at 80 kW, bringing the state of charge from 30 to 80% in 30 minutes. You also get just 6.6 kW of maximum AC charging power, taking 10.5 hours for a full charge. Aside from the AWD model, the J6 is also available in other markets in rear-wheel-drive form with 184 PS (135 kW), 220 Nm of torque and a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering a WLTP range of 371 km.

The J6 is set to arrive in Malaysia early this year, following on from the J7 PHEV which will be launched very soon. Would you get this over a burgeoning pack of electric SUVs and sedans that are already here? Sound off in the comments after the jump.

  • Jaecoo J6 EV open for booking in Thailand, fr RM139k – boxy electric SUV is coming to Malaysia early 2025

The Jaecoo J6 is now open for booking in Thailand. The EV that looks like a baby Land Rover Defender is available in the Land of Smiles in two configurations – the Long Range 2WD for an estimated 1.099 million baht (RM138,715) and the Long Range 4WD for an estimated 1.249 million baht (RM157,648). Deliveries are expected to start towards the end of the year.

The first 1,000 bookings will receive a warranty of eight years or 200,000 km, which covers the vehicle, battery and motors/system. These early birds will also get a Garmin Forerunner 165 watch. All Thai J6 customers will get one-year free insurance, a free home charger with installation and five years of roadside assistance. All these goodies are for deliveries before November 30.

Previewed here in May, the Jaecoo J6 was first seen in China last year as the iCar 03 (iCar is also a Chery sub-brand). The boxy shape is slightly shorter than the Toyota Corolla Cross. It measures just 4,406 mm long, but is rather wide and tall at 1,910 mm and 1,715 mm respectively. The 2,715 mm wheelbase is also very generous.

Note that there are two looks for this car, one with the Jaecoo logotype emblazoned on the front end, and another with the original iCar look and illuminated front badge, as seen here.

Thailand is getting the latter along with a 40-litre rear storage “backpack” on the sideways-opening tailgate. Malaysia will be getting this style too, which is much better looking than the Jaecoo face.

Inside, rugged cues include large grab handles on the centre console and door cards and even exposed Allen bolt heads. Our Malaysia Autoshow preview unit had a 9.2-inch meter panel, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, 50-watt Qi wireless charger, panoramic glass roof and an optional 12-speaker Infinity sound system.

Two versions of the J6 are available in Thailand, one with a rear motor producing 184 PS (135 kW) and 220 Nm, the other with an extra front motor for total system output of 279 PS (205 kW) and 385 Nm. The 2WD car comes with a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and the claimed WLTP range is 371 km. The 4WD gets a slightly bigger battery (69.77 kWh) that’s good for 364 km WLTP range.

As for charging, the max AC rate is 6.6 kW while DC fast charging sucks in as much as 80 kW. There’s a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function that can supply power up to 3.3 kW. The specs are OK, but the Jaecoo J6’s unique selling point is its boxy, Defender-style looks – what do you think?

Chery’s Jaecoo brand made its Malaysian debut last month with the J7, a handsome SUV with (again) Land Rover-style looks, a 1.6L turbo-four with 194 hp/290 Nm and a very long kit list, which we go through in full here. The J6 is expected to surface in Malaysia early next year.

  • Jaecoo J6 EV – rebranded iCar 03 with 501 km range, solar panels, ADAS tech by DJI, 150 km/h top speed

Jaecoo J6 EV – rebranded iCar 03 with 501 km range, solar panels, ADAS tech by DJI, 150 km/h top speed

You’re looking at the Jaecoo J6, an all-new entry for Chery’s emergent premium sub-brand. Unlike the ICE or PHEV-powered J7 and J8 however, the smaller J6 is a full fledged EV. As you can see, it’s certainly a cool looking SUV, though its styling doesn’t necessarily conform to that of the rest of the Jaecoo range.

UPDATE: This will be launched in Malaysia as the iCaur 03.

Well, that’s because the J6 isn’t strictly a Jaecoo at all, at least not at birth. In China, it’s sold as the iCar 03 (completely unrelated to the much-rumoured Apple car), which is yet another sub-brand under the Chery umbrella that is targeted at fashion-conscious young people. For export markets though, it will be called the Jaecoo J6.

You may also have noticed that we have two sets of pictures here: one showing the car wearing Jaecoo badging, and the other with its original iCar name. The Jaecoo grille unfortunately loses out on the illuminated i logo that is replicated on both the head- and taillight designs.

Jaecoo J6 EV – rebranded iCar 03 with 501 km range, solar panels, ADAS tech by DJI, 150 km/h top speed

Another difference is the large box at the back, which is missing on the Jaecoo display vehicle. Mind you, the external rectangle box fashioned after traditional tailgate-mounted spare tyres on the iCar pre-dates the similar charging cable storage solution on the just-unveiled electric Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.

Beyond that, the J6 has a very distinctive blocky design, which will definitely stand out on Malaysian roads if it is to arrive here. The shape gives off Land Rover Defender vibes for sure, while its small size gives a bit of a Suzuki Jimny 5-door flavour as well. However, it has to be said that in the flesh, the J6 does have an original look of its own, unlike the countless Chinese copycats seen at the ongoing Auto China 2024 in Beijing.

Interesting details include the Defender-aping side-hinged tailgate and the flush self-presenting door handled. However, the latter flicks out towards the back rather than popping out as a whole like in other Jaecoo models (among the few features that draw comparisons with Range Rovers).

Size wise, the Jaecoo J6 measures 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,715 mm tall. Its wheelbase is relatively long for an SUV this size, at 2,715 mm. The dimensions make it just slightly shorter than the J7 (4,500 mm), though the J6 is a touch wider (+45 mm) and taller (+35 mm).

Inside, it gets a large centre display and a wide-set horizontal dash layout. It feels rather plush to the touch – perhaps even more so than the J7 does – especially with the crystal drive mode selector on the centre console. The doors open via push-buttons a la Tesla, while the grab handles with exposed rivets are inspired by the Defender.

In China, the iCar 03 is available with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive electric motor configurations. According to local Chinese reports, the dual motor version is rated at 279 PS and it can get from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. However, top speed is limited to just 150 km/h. Range is up to 501 km on the CLTC test cycle, using the largest 69.8 kWh CATL-supplied LFP battery option.

Also available is a set of roof-mounted solar panels that can help add charge to the battery pack, as well as ADAS cameras from popular drone-maker DJI. Similar to Tesla Vision, the J6 solely relies on high-definition cameras placed around the vehicle for driving assist functions, without any radars or sensors.

We will know more when exports start, which we’ve been told will be fairly soon. Do you want to see the Jaecoo J6 in Malaysia? Comment below.
