Peugeot 308 GT snapped on trailer in Malaysia!

Peugeot 308 GT

These shots show a Peugeot 308 GT (tell tale trapezoidal integrated rear twin exhausts) being transported on a trailer in Malaysia. We’re heard talk in the past about Nasim Peugeot Sdn Bhd going to introduce the Peugeot 308 here soon as a C-segment contender, but will its product line-up include this 308 GT?

If we are indeed getting this car and at a sub-200k price, it will allow many people to enjoy a really fun and fast hot hatch with the same torquey lag-less 1.6 litre Prince engine in the MINI Cooper S that makes 175hp and 240Nm of torque at a very low 1,600rpm.

Look after the jump for 3 more photos of the 308 GT.

i’ve always liked pug hot hatches.. nice cars.. but i would probably never see myself buying one. good cars nonetheless, but i think branding wise, it will struggle to compete with the mini if prices are similar.

Peugeot was famous for their GTi…

When they made the 205 GTi, everyone loved it, got everyone wild!
Then came the 306 GTi, everyone was happy, but it was no 205 GTi performance wise.

Then came the 206 GTi, people started yawning.
Then the 307 GT, people were looking elsewhere.
Then this, and the 207 GTi, people fell sleep…

I passed the same trailer on the NSE. The 308 looks VERY good in the metal.

There was a silver CKD 407 in the front. Probably heading to HQ.

Type-R is the only other manual trans sporty car being sold here but it’s more hardcore. Don’t forget the EK9, the first Type-R Civic.

I was at peugeot bluebox about 2 weeks back (08.08.08), fixing my car and the salesman over there said that the 308 will arrive in abt 2 weeks’ time…so that’ll be somewhere on 22.08.08 onwards? Well, those interested to check it in the flesh can check with bluebox anytime now, as I believe it’ll be on display over there before going around other states for a display ‘tour’. The salesman also mentioned that the price is around RM135++(near the 407 CKD’s price) but I’m doubtful of this piece of info…just to share-lah with you guys anyway…By the way, did anyone check out the 207cc over at 1U? I missed the opportunity twice already…sigh…

    DtG & albagmane,

You should say the latio looks like Renault cars… but then, Nissan and Renault was under the same alliance, it’s Renault-Nissan.

    BanyakMasukWorkshop,

If I’m not wrong, BMW’s Mini is competing against the 206/207GTi. You can find videos of those from YouTube. It has also been compared before in Magazines.
The mini outperform the 206 GTi180 in terms of stability and handling.

    PaulTan,

After BlueBox launch, I got the brochure for the 308 GT when I went for service there sometime in March (I think). The estimated priced was stated RM148K. But that was quite early of the year news tough.
Anyhow, I believe it’ll still be much cheaper than most of it’s rival.
Plus, MAN, the 206 GTi also need RM150K already last time!!! Not to mentioned a bare spec 206 GTi, with normal RD3 head unit, basic sound system, and lack of many features and stuffs mentioned in the handbook which are optional packages!
The 308 GT on the other hand, comes with all those features as standard?

For Nasim, if according to current 207cc, the specs and features are impressive. Not to mentioned priced very closed with it’s predecessor which also comes in as bare spec with cheap RD3 Head Unit, basic sound system.

Hopefully we can see good pricing, specs and features for this 308 GT.

For those who don’t agree and not interested, well, leave us alone t enjoy this lion. =P

sure buy for me IF the price is right. but only the middle spec la. not GT nor bare spec. at the moment, i will continue to enjoy my 206 lion same as andy and lowprofile.

    anybody already booked this car?

  25. topgunthang says:

i wouldnt mind trying. since some reviewers said the interior feels like a car twice its price. engine is fuel efficient enough.

    take a look here. http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/peugeot-308-review.htm

based on these prices….i would think in msia they would price is around 120k-148k rm for a top spec.

  26. lowprofile says:

3 variants, covering a wide price range. expect nasim to price those cars very aggressively just like the 407 and with class leading specs.
