Skoda’s C-segment contender the Octavia is now in its third generation, and it carries an updated design language, inspired by the Skoda MissionL Concept.
The new Skoda Octavia has more interior length (1,782 mm), more knee room (73 mm) and more headroom at the back (980 mm). Boot volume is at 590 litres. Other interior dimensions have also increased significantly compared to the second generation Octavia: front head room: + 8 mm, front elbow width: + 39 mm, rear elbow width: + 26 mm. Other dimension changes – front head room: + 8 mm, front elbow width: + 39 mm, rear elbow width: + 26 mm.
Exterior-wise, the Octavia is 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider than the second-generation Octavia. At the same time, the wheelbase has grown by 108 mm, mainly benefiting the interior and space on the rear seats.
Different engines are available, with the top of the line being a 1.8 litre TSI petrol engine that produces 177 horsepower. The most economical version is the Octavia GreenLine, consuming just 3.4L/100km from it’s 108 horsepower 1.6 litre TDI diesel. Manual and DSG automatic gearboxes are available driving the front wheels, with all-wheel drive available soon.
Practicality-wise, there are various standard features and options. There’s a double-sided floor covering in the boot, an ice scraper is placed inside the filler flap, a warning vest holder is located underneath the driver’s seat and a rubbish bin inside the door panel, a multimedia holder for iPod/mobile phone/etc, a large overhead sunglasses compartment, and various other storage bays, holders and hooks.
In terms of safety features, there are a few interesting driver assist systems. From May 2013, there will be a Front Assistant/emergency braking function. Other features include Lane Assistant, which keeps the Octavia on track, multicollision-braking/automatic brake actuation in an accident, Crew Protect Assistant/securing of the vehicle in an accident situation, Driver Activity Assistant (fatigue detection) or an active front hatch for pedestrian protection. You can have the Octavia with up to 9 airbags, including rear side airbags for the first time in an Octavia.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
In other words, a Volkswagen Passat with a different badge
No, not Passat.
The Oktavia is based on the Golf/Jetta platform.
This car got bad RV. Nothing like Toyota. I encourage everyone to buy Toyota. Eventhough UMW’s charges are exorbitant and it cost more to maintain a Toyota than a BMW, I fully urge you to buy Toyota.
u mau cari publisiti murahan ka kawan??
Talk about RV, Sam Loo will be the Nick of choice
sarcasm really needs some degree of intelect..lol
Still a better built and better engined car than any Toyota!
In other words, a Volkswagen Passat with a Skoda badge
Since when is Passat a C-segment car? This thing is an upsized Jetta!
VW Jetta in another body shield
anything wrong with that? you get great safety features, current technology, good quality, but cheaper because of the skoda badge…
Nope, previous posting mention it was a Passat
Not just in another body, but in a larger body with more interior space and more boot space. Sounds good!
Front Like BMW
Side Like Jetta
Headlamps Jetta
Side mirrors like Ford Forus
Rims like Hyundai Elantra
590 litres of boot space!? wow…
In other word….if Proton sign the mou with VW we could have a VW Passat with Perdana badge….
Dude, the Superb is based on the Passat… this is the Golf
This is how a proper European car design looks like. Bukan itu macam Protong Preve fake itself syok sendiri jadi Mat Saleh konon…big joke lah.
ur point being?
hmmm… why on skoda subject people still comparing with proton preve?… wierd but predictable.. if not mistaken that PROTONG PREVE just won 2nd place on 1000km endurance @sic… so bad that protong!!! junk car still can beat those japanese car.. hmmm.. cheers dude… get some work with good pay.. so u can buy import car rather than complaining ur unheard voice..
wow looks like a 15 years old Audi A4
Wow your car looks like a 50 year old Ford. Still have windshield, windows, 4 wheels, dashboard, steering wheel, headlamps, accelerator and brake pedals, seats…
available in malaysia?
Previous ones were, but no one bought them, despite being good and successful elsewhere.
nice dashboard!
passat 160hp. this one higher. almost like pologti hp
In its main markets it will, like other cars, be offered with a wide variety of engines. It is common to offer a car with engines from 60 to 200 HP. You spend more, you get more. But if you want to save there is always the entry level engine. You can also to a certain degree mix and match specs, so you could have a baseline engine with almost all the options ticked, for example. Only in Malaysia they prepare packages and offer no choice.
Preview of Jetta VII? Interior looks to share some of the new stuff from Golf VII. This Octavia should be based on the new MQB platform right?
The jetta is already a “VII”. it was launched last year only. if you look at the golf VII, you’ll see that the car now looks more like the current jetta.
Not really, the Golf VII’s powertrain and engine bay is different because the EA211 engine is tilted at a different angle than the Jetta’s and Golf VI’s EA111 engine. The current Jetta has more similarities in terms of platform, interior design, exterior design, power train and engine compartment with the Golf VI.
Pitty, why VW group thow in old Audi tail lamp and i think they can do better hence front look simple and nice…
The Skoda brand used to be a joke. Now it makes sensible cars. The Octavia looks good !
Yeah, mostly thanks to their German boss, VW. Nonetheless, Skoda’s latest cars are really good. They dominate most of Eastern Europe today. Too bad most Malaysians don’t realize this. I hardly see any Skoda cars on our roads today. :/
If we has a fair priced skoda car in Malaysia, yu will see them more on the road.
For what it is the Superb is priced extremely fair. A car in the class of E class and 5 series for 200k?!
Looks like previous gen Audi A4s’.
All under the same roof ‘the big V’ though, however apparently Skoda got the 3rd class treatment here.
Sad for that.
Sobz.
jetta is better looking than this :)
great i can buy some of the parts to be fitted on jetta.. door panels looks better than jetta
The interior is exactly similar to VW Golf MK7. No surprise as they are from the same group. Not a bad thing either.
cm lain je..
yg ni nmpk modern.
yg golf mk7 tu nmpk olskool.
well, this kind of design may look bland to some, but it last longer.. some poeple say timeless
i personally like it
Fully agree with you
Is like what the late Oscar Niemeyer would have design,
Yup, agreed. Clean and simple lines have more lasting appeal. Hyundai’s fluidic design is starting to look old.. but still not as bad as Alfas.. they tend to look obsolete 1 month after coming out of the showroom..
Handsome car. If only Malaysians could appreciate the not so commong european makes and know this is vw..that owns lambo, audi, seat etc.
Look at the tech and specs. Compare it to say accord or camry.
If this is sold as a honda or toyo in msia…
The interior is excellent.
Hope to see skodas selling well here.
The design is just simple and tidy neat. If this is selling without NAP, I will buy one. It is just damn slick.
This is a sharp & tidy looking car, and I personally think the rear door design is quite nice.Looks a bit better and more muscualr than the VW Jetta too.Is Auto Praha Sdn Bhd still around?
It may be a bit bland looking, but hack whats not to like about the design?
Clean, simple and handsome exterior and a neat interior. minimalism at is best. And unlike previous gen Octavio, I see little (there is but little) traces of Volkswagen. GREAT JOB SKODA.
All these pics look like taken in 90s.
i would say this is nice, character line at side just awesome..but front grille bit off..but overall looks nice..masculine.
Looks very good! but it wasn’t mentioned if it’s based on the MQB, so it might be based on the current Jetta?
Had Berjaya and principle VGM can cooperate better to enhance Skoda’s value, ownership experience will be close to VW or Audi brand.
Current distributor simply do not offer adequate efforts to promote Skoda. Having a reasonable price Skoda in diesel guise certainly will help the Czech brand.
Wait, this is a hatchback, not a sedan… Right?
If hatchback then only by the way the boot opens. Which would be a good thing, because the opening is bigger that way. Easier to load up.
Skoda is similar to Holden AND Protong! All doing their OEM rebrand..
Not true. Skoda is developing their cars independent from VW. However they can and do access the VW parts. So they just take their platform, engine etc and design and develop their own cars around it. With the Superb they were so good that reviewers said it was better than the Passat. Much better. As a result VW fired the Skoda boss. If they would have just rebranded that wouldn’t have happened…
VGM should take over sales of Skodas. As they position VW as a premium brand that would make sense. They could use Skoda to go against Ford, Toyota etc. ie. offer the Fabia for 70+k against the Fiesta and Vios. The Octavia can go against C segment cars but offer D segment space. That can sell rather well. Since the parts are all shared between the VW models it would be easy to service and maintain, it could also mean that it is more financially viable to extend the SC network of VW, thus making both brands even more attractive.
They should also bring in the Roomster. Currently there is no alternative in that segment in Malaysia, as Renault doesn’t offer the Kangoo here anymore. It is also much better looking.
This car will dominate the verna fludic and Volkswagen. And Nissan in India
Yes skoda is a very well built car value for money. I am driving one no regrets. try one then you will understand better.
I love my 2004 Skoda Octavia 1.8 20 v Laurin & Klement. It was akin to an arranged marriage and not like the love at first sight thing. Its not really pretty from the side but I have grown to love it. It sort of like grows on you day by day. Excellent car and truly value for money. Its a good thing the majority of Malaysian car owners were unaware of this gem.
I am in need of a replacement used or recond auto transmission.Would appreciate some help from you guys out there. Grinding sound on all gears but car does not move. (152,000 km)
Thanks
