Unveiled ahead of its Geneva debut is this, the new Volkswagen cross up!. Essentially a dressed up variant of the company’s ingenious city car, it joins the existing members of Volkswagen’s Cross family, the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran; the last of which is available here in Malaysia.
Modelled as a lifestyle-oriented model, the cross up! gets SUV-style plastic mouldings on the wheel arches and side sills, plus full-length door protector strips. Further distinguishing itself from regular up! models are silver detailings on the roof rails, wing mirrors and bumpers. New-style 16-inch ‘cross’ wheels complete the visual flourish.
Unlike the Fiat Panda 4×4, a similarly spruced up supermini, the cross up! does not gain a four-wheel drive system nor low-range gears for off-roading of any kind. It’s a purely cosmetic job – just like the rest of the Cross family – though at least the ride height has been adjusted for a more rugged look.
As it is, the three-cylinder 75 PS petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission is the sole powertrain choice, driving the 185/50 R16 front tyres. Electronic stability programme (ESC) is standard even on the cheapest model.
Inside, it can be specified with features that are unique to the cross up! model. The seats can be had in either red or anthracite (grey) trims, the instrument panel dashpad in a choice of red, black or dark silver, and the air outlets are jazzed up with a dash of chrome. Door tread plates with ‘cross up!’ lettering is up for the pickings too.
They toy count isn’t as high as more upscale Volkswagens, but remote central locking, electric front windows, fog lights, electrically adjustable heated wing mirrors, split folding rear seats, variable cargo floor, rev counter and a multifunction display all come as standard. Prices start at €13,925 (RM57,750) in its home markets with deliveries scheduled to begin in October.

Cross Up? That really sounds familiar to Malaysian Nissan X Gear or suppose to be call Cross Gear.
Just wondering.
Their ruggedized Touran is also called Cross Touran.
p2 might pick up the idea & start making Myvi Cross or Alza cross editions.
cross apa cross la..
after cross this cross that, charge us few k more for all these stiupik cross cross
better ask P2 to improve the car safety.. at least charging few k more for safety and quality.. look at the current crash test, MyVi A pillar gone case.. 3 stars only
check out VW UP euroNcap rating.. 5 bintang dun play play..
P2 better improve the fundamental 1st before coming out with all this fancy product .. also ask P2 to stop those stiupik “limited addition” to rip our money..
Just put back the CVT tranny that was suppose to be there. That would be a nice start.
We Malaysians really do get ripped off in car prices. There are so many features which come as standard with a lesser price tag from abroad
Yup. The baseline model comes with auto city brake system… like some D segment and higher cars are getting these days (Mazda 6 2.5 etc.). So car in front of you slams the brakes, your car will too if you are too slow to react. In the equivalent of a Viva. What the …
Chic looking car.
It reminds me of P1 emas concept tho.
please bring UP! to msia… sell it at 60k ppl still buy bcos mirage and i10 also costing +- 60k nowadays…
And Kancil/Viva sell half the price. Rm30k
But selling at 60k is still worth it if you know the actual purpose of the car. It’s a city car. Not meamt for long distance travel.
i10 and Mirage also city car wat.. ppl still paying 60k for it…
suzuki alto also city car, cost 50k to 55k.. ppl still buy wat
i read some good review about UP! although it is city car but better handling and stablility compare to city cars of other manufacturer..
MyVi 60k+- also not so good for long distance la….
having said that, we takdir live in msia.. car suppose for city use also bcome balik kampung car.. Viva, Kelisa, Kenari, Savvy, Myvi..
when ppl talk about how expensive VW is, they forgot other cars also quite expensive.. lolzz..
I’m not sure how many would buy the up! at 55-60k, but I do like the thought of it being available, especially if it does come with all the features. That would shame Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc.
CarBuyer reviewed it, and they like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA6urLW6PHA
+1
carbuyer (Matt and Rebecca) do give good auto review
VW Up! seems set the bar for city cars.. who says city cars have to sacrifice quality, compromise feature and comfort., VW shows it is possible..
Competitor’s B-segment also might not be on par with VW Up’s quality..
Interior still top notch, boxy car for space and practicality.. when msian able to adapt small cars like kancil, viva, kelisa, kenari, savvy, alto, atos and picanto, VW UP will hav no issue..
By far this is one of the best city car produced with 5 star euroncap rating.. other competitor (Peugeot 107 – 3 star, Toyota Aygo – 3 star, Citroen C1 – 3 star, Ford Ka – 4 star, Kia Picanto – 4 star, Hyundai i10 – 4 star, Suzuki Alto – 3 star)
As described by Matt in carbuyer, VW Up also good as cruiser on the open road, which he seldom comment such way for city car category
Msia need more good quality cars..
Just what I am looking for. Basic small size city car with good safety features. Unfortunately, it will cost around RM100K here after you add in the taxes.
is it same as PROTON emas? this vw Up also come from design-house pininfarina…
Proton Emas was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s ItalDesign. This was before VW Group bought Italdesign. So maybe there is a connection….
Talking about Emas? Vaporized by DRB already?
The body cutting looks like old P2 Myvi
Rebadge P2 Myvi ?!
Rebadge P2 Myvi ?! OMG, where the designer gone… ???? Finish New Year Holiday might got better idea for them i think. ????
UP is not Myvi category..
UP is called city car which is same segment with kelisa n viva
Myvi is b-segment comparable with Polo..
yea.. Polo rebadge bcome Myvi is your wet dream or only in your dream?? lolzzz
