As the BMW 4 Series is to the 3, the 2 is to the 1 – under Munich’s new naming convention, all coupes are to be even-numbered; so the 2 Series family will effectively replace the coupe versions of the 1 Series, with Convertible and Gran Coupe versions also likely.
The 2 Series Coupe is expected to launch sometime this year and the Convertible next year, while the 1 Series will continue in hatchback form. It’s rumoured that the 1 Series may switch to FWD in the future, giving BMW room to price the 2 Series higher.
The car you see in these spyshots, courtesy of CarPix, could well be the hot M235i, which reportedly began production late last year at BMW’s Leipzig facility. Indications include the aggressive lower front bumper, M Sport steering wheel, twin tailpipes, boot lid spoiler as well as the same kind of wheels worn by the M135i.

At its heart is the same 320 hp/450 Nm 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six, and transmission should be taken care of by an eight-speed auto. This one, though, has a six-speed manual gearbox. 18-inch alloys shod in 255/40 front and 245/35 rear tires are also said to be offered.
The BMW 2 Series should carry over the 1 Series’ four-cylinder engines, including a 2.0 litre petrol in 150 hp, 177 hp and 218 hp guises. A 214 hp 2.0 litre turbodiesel is also said to be on the menu, while xDrive could be available as an optional extra.

Hmmm can’t see the side view of the car to get a rough estimate of the length of the car. Looks like BMW too is aggressive to launch many models in the coming years.
This will fail like the 1 series.
They can launch many models but they give a poor 2 years warranty on their cars. Even Koreans, Japanese and Americans (Ford) are all now giving 5 years warranty. Even Mercedes gives 4 years.
the dashboard is fat..i somehow find it cramped inside the 3 series..this looks similar too..the interior also doesnt change much from e60/e90 generations..
vw interior feels more airy/roomier then the beemer..
err.. bro, u feels cramped in a 3-series?
were u refering to the E90? coz the current F30 is huge…
I think he’s too fat =P
my obese friend also feels cramped in S-class.
Comparing your VW to Toyota lah not Beemer.
like Mini, too many version of BMW with similar design looks mundane….1, M1,3, M3, 5, M5, 6, M6, 7, M7, X1, X1M, X3, X3M, X5, X5M and the list not including different variant or special edition…. too much look alike its a bad thing, customer dont know which to buy….. UBAH!
it’s funny that the current F30 is almost the same size at the previous E60/E39. hence they created this 1/2-series to match the size and more importantly the dynamics of the E21/2002 that made bmw famous

F30 maybe big in size and almost similar to E60 or E39 but the dynamics of the 3-series like the E90 is being retained. BMW has addressed the issue of cramped rear passenger room of the E90 without to sacrifice its driving dynamics and the fact that the F30 is 100kg lighter than E90 is a great achievement

what? FWD bimmer? i thought bimmer is always about RWD, fun to drive, perfect 50/50 balance???
Front tyre should be 225/40/18 not 255/40/18, same as the F20 1 series
