This is an unexpected set of spyshots as it wasn’t exactly a planned ‘stalk’ of the target car with professional equipment. No super zoom lenses were involved in this one.
A friend of our usual European spy photographer CarPix was riding his BMW F800R through the hills when he suddenly saw something very interesting beyond a road block – the new BMW M3 in a nice bright Yas Marina Blue paintjob being photographed. These are the stills from his motorcycle helmet camera.
This isn’t just a regular M Sport car – the aggressive front end inspired by the 4-Series, the wide fenders, the big wheels, low profile tyres and the recognisable M quad-tip exhaust system all point to this car being the new M3. We’ve already seen a concept that previews the M4, but nothing of this M3 yet.
With this latest M3 and its newly rechristened sibling the M4, we’ll say goodbye to the high-revving normally-aspirated V8 and say hello to a twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre inline-six motor doing 430 hp and over 500 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual.
