In addition to claiming that all DSG-related issues have been resolved, Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) managing director Armin Keller also briefed members of the media today regarding the recent Volkswagen Beetle recall, as well as announcing a number of measures the company is taking to ensure a satisfactory customer experience.
The issue affects 2,134 units of the Beetle manufactured between April 2012 and July 2013 and concerns the trailing arm of the rear torsion beam suspension that can suffer from pre-damage through a rear-end impact. If the damage is unchecked and not repaired, this can in individual cases cause a sudden break in the trailing arm and a loss of control of the vehicle.
VGM has clarified that no such cases have been reported so far in the country. Malaysian Jetta owners are not affected by a similar recall involving certain Jetta models overseas, as local units are fitted with multi-link suspension. Beetle 2.0 TSI models also feature a multi-link rear suspension and are exempted from the recall as well.
Beetle owners will be able to check if they are affected by the recall by visiting a separate microsite, where they will be asked to input the VIN number of their vehicle, as well as whether their car has suffered from any form of rear-end damage. The company will inform affected owners individually this week on further course of action, and owners unaffected by this issue will also be notified to assuage their fears.
The inspection process will take around 30 minutes, and the repairs will be performed free of charge. In addition, affected owners will also be able to have their cars picked up from any location starting from mid-November. The service will run until 9 pm daily throughout the period, and customers will be provided with a free courtesy car while the repairs are being carried out.

VW should give a 10 years warranty entire car including engine and gearbox. Follow Proton power window solution, okay.
Just spray the beetles with german made insecticides… BAYGON
Pretty bold move eh. I think if they introduced the loaner thing for other repairs too, at least the owners won’t be that pissed.
Some years ago, was deciding between a Golf and Volvo S40. Of course Volvo is unpopular and many said VW is sexy and cool. But lucky me, I went for Volvo.
Five years past, my S40 still serves me well and never had any problem. Only service, pump petrol and goooooo.
Volvo is a sexy car – look at V40 and XC60.
Look at the S60 as well!
Good choice. Imo, Volvo is one of the most underappreciated car brands in Malaysia and, unlike VW, it is a proper premium marque and it certainly beats VW in terms of safety.
‘and it certainly beats VW in terms of safety’
Says who? Both got a five-star rating fron Euro NCAP. So why the Volvo ‘certainly beats VW in terms of safety’?
Why’re you looking at EuroNCAP? Look at IIHS.
Volvo S60:

Volvo XC60:

Volvo XC90 (previous gen, in service since 2003 with minimal structural modifications):

Volkswagen Passat:

Volkswagen Jetta:

Volkswagen Tiguan:

Lastly, look at the front crash prevention rating. Where applicable, Volvo’s are all superior to VW’s. And that isn’t taking into account things like Cross-Traffic Alert that are equipped on Volvo’s newer cars. EuroNCAP isn’t the last word in safety and Volvo designs their cars to exceed the current safety requirements of the market. When the IIHS introduced the small front overlap test, they were one of the few that passed. Most of the other automakers had to play catch-up. Most are still trying to catch up.
Why’re you looking at EuroNCAP? Look at IIHS.
I look at EuroNCAP because I don’t believe anything from US.
How dare you question Volvo’s safety! Seditious! Burn his house, beat his mother!
well i got both; s40 and the mk6 gti.
both now 4yrs old and no issue with both marque.
never trust VW malaysia anymore… car have their intrinsic problem never mind, i think Federal Auto auto technician is not properly trained to diagnosed problem . I had spend > 10K to change all the sensor and parking brake for my passat, till now problem unsolved, the parking brake light and ESP on and off occasionally…
It will be simple for them to change new things !
this is why you should join the vw club to know which sc you should go to.
another fake keyboard warrior.
ESP on off is due to some wheel speed sensor or the abs/esp module or the abs pump or etc related.
nevertheless its covered either 2yrs manufactured or 3yrs EWP.
got mine changed 4yrs (hence EWP) and which federal auto did very good job on the dot (no need Q) and just 1 day only to change the 2 speed sensors.
don buy vw, buy volvo
Yes, Dongfeng (Volvo) is better than VW!
yea…surely better than Shanghai VW
How did Dongfeng enter the picture? They’re owned by Zhejiang Geely lah.
he confused with volvo trucks
something is fishy here. the statement says VW is concern on the damage when the car is read-ended. now why would VW worry when a car is involved in an accident. if it’s rear-ended than off-course there would be damage and it’s no longer VW responsibility but the onus on the owner to get it repaired. Hence, something fishy about the reason to recall it.
‘now why would VW worry when a car is involved in an accident’
Yes, why? Others even don’t care about exploding airbags shelling metal fragments around:
‘Federal safety regulators and Toyota Motor are stepping up efforts to get car owners to bring in cars whose airbags might explode, sending metal fragments into the driver and other passengers.’
http://myfox8.com/2014/10/20/toyota-to-drivers-replace-exploding-airbags/
Maybe it does sound fishy but at least they’re owning up to it now (if there is something wrong). y do you feel it’s fishy tho?
