Uber to employ one million female drivers by 2020

uber-female-drivers-2020

Mobile-app-based transport service provider Uber has recently announced its partnership with UN Women that will see the firm hire up to one million female drivers by the end of this decade. According to a statement by Uber, the move is aimed at “accelerating economic opportunity for women.”

“We intend to invest in long-term programs in local communities where we live and work, as Uber commits to creating 1,000,000 jobs for women globally on the Uber platform by 2020,” said Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, executive director of UN Women, and Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick.

In the United States, the firm has stated that 14% of its 160,000 drivers are female, as Reuters understands. The firm has also claimed that it seeks to add thousands more drivers each month. While the move has been lauded by many, skeptics are more inclined to believe the move was more of PR-related rescue act.

Lately, the company has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons with reported cases of drivers abusing passengers all over the world – from the United States to India. Most recently in Malaysia, a alleged harassment case was brought to light by a female client after she had received a personal text from an Uber driver following the end of a business transaction – more details here.

I would be worried too. In Malaysia, in the kampungs up north, even the atuk also cannot see his own female cucu.

I’m an Uber driver. Ask me anything.

I do it for fun, when i have free time. Easy money. Met girls who keep my number and text me. No, not gonna sue them for harassment.

Yes, I have texted some girls later, even given free rides. Get a good rating. If they don’t wanna text back, forget about it.

I take Uber as a passenger too. No complaints. Good to go to clubs, and not have to drive back drunk, vomiting friends.

Taxis? Give me a break. Taxi drivers should change themselves before they complain. Use a meter at least. And keep the car clean.

SPAD? Run by an old retiree who has no other work. Have they done anything to improve public transport apart from dole out fines and penalise people?

Almost ALL my Uber passengers tell me they take Uber because they will NEVER EVER go back to taking taxis because of taxi drivers and the taxi condition. So many got harassed, shouted at, threatened.

The bad thing: Uber is run by a bunch of yuppie Bangsar boys. I know all of them. Run like a college dorm. Low professionalism (of course they will deny this). The only thing they do is send emails and SMS everyday threatening the drivers with cancellation of their Uber Partner app, for every small thing. Careline? Sorry, they won’t deal with minion drivers as they are too cool for that. Expect the drivers to provide 5-star service even though Uber X is known as the VALUE service, thats why its CHEAP. Any small mistake, call to complain. No permanent numbers, they use different numbers everytime.

    So yea, AMA.

          John Doe,

          I drive for Uber too..

Contrary to popular belief.. where some unknown artistes trying to find cheap publicity over some ‘hi dear’ message.., I do find it weird that some of the time, it’s the ladies passenger that keeps the driver’s number and messaging them privately (it happens to me before few times).
For me, I like to keep it professional. I only use customer’s number when I need to confirm their address and tell them of my arrival. I don’t keep their number at all, after each day.. i just cleared all phone records and starts new day clean.
Why I like driving for Uber? I got to met many types of people. Mostly professional people. Sometimes they strikes a great conversation.
Like Joe, I’m also sometimes become Uber customer, when I feel lazy to drive around. And what’s not to love about riding with Uber? The car is usually new and clean? Drivers normally proud of their car.. , taking good care of it and looks shining. Rides are smooth.. Driver are mostly professional.., offers you a drink(cold mineral water). That’s what makes Uber different than normal taxi. They(taxi) still driving the same old battered Iswara taxi.., enter the car.. immediately you’re bombarded with a smelly.. full of trash and personals item, sometimes you wonder er.. are they living in this taxi? Why can’t govt put limit of age of taxi? shame.. to tourist.. that’s why most IT literate tourist.. will prefer to user Uber when in town.
Uber to sign up female driver? – I hope ladies driver out there.. think about your safety.. it’s the most important.., if you think you can handle it, then only signed up as a driver. Or maybe Uber can create a new category for Women driver? Uberpink? Only exclusively available to female customer?

And Uber need to be really serious in vetting out bad driver out of system if they want to be the choice of Malaysian public transport user. After all.. people choose to use Uber due to bad stigma they have with our existing bad taxi services in malaysia.
Don’t forget to keep out the BAD customer out of the system too – Uber has 2 way systems that allows driver rate customer with up to 5 stars or 1 star if they think you are a rude and bad passenger. I normally give 5 stars unless, they are really rude and bad manners, or kept me waiting for them to turn up. Please BAN those abusive customers too.., we don’t need them in the system. Let them rot using the red and white taxis.

Hail to good Uber services and honest driver.

Where is the organization to fight for men’s right?

The world should know that some men face harassment in office by female bosses, especially unmarried ones. Then they go home only to be nagged by their wives.

The world is simply not being fair to men.

They may be operating but like drug dealers, out side the law.
They do not have insurance that is valid for carrying passengers.
They do not have correct standard vehicles.
They do not have drivers with the correct licenses
        But mainly
They do not have insurance …. Uber lie about it to their drivers and customers.

Uber do not employ anyone to drive. They make you provide own car and underpay you for it.
Uber is greedy and bad with no care for anything but money. #ubered
