Lotus Evora 400 priced in the UK – £72,000 or RM404k

Lotus has given a price to its latest pride and joy – the new Evora 400 will start from £72,000 in the UK, €96,000 in Germany and $89,900 in the USA. Based on its home market price tag, the flagship Evora, unveiled in March at the Geneva show by Tun Dr Mahathir, costs RM404k before Malaysian taxes.

The options list includes automatic transmission at £2,000 (RM11,218), Alcantara or leather trim upgrades at £2,500 (RM14,022) and metallic paint at £900 (RM5,048). The “Black Pack”, available at £1,250 (RM7,011), provides exterior panels including the roof, sills and centre section of the three-element rear wing in gloss black and dark cabin headlining. Lightweight forged alloys can be fitted for £2,000 (RM11,218) while cruise control and yellow or black brake calipers (red is standard) are priced at £300 (RM1,683) each.

At a glance, £72,000 seems like a lot of money for an Evora, especially when a Porsche Cayman S starts from below £50k in the UK. But the 325 hp Cayman S isn’t the correct rival for the fastest road-going Lotus ever – at 400 hp and 410 Nm, the supercharged 3.5 V6 Evora 400 should go against the new and hardcore Porsche Cayman GT4, which has a 911-derived 3.8 litre flat-six (only available with a manual), 385 hp and 420 Nm. The GT4 goes for £64,451 in the UK.

“We know that the Lotus Evora 400 can deliver the performance of a car costing significantly more and we are conscious that the pricing is highly competitive. Yet, the greatest merit which no other sports car or supercar can deliver is a peerless Lotus driving experience,” said Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Group Lotus.

The Evora 400, which laps the Lotus test track at Hethel six seconds faster than the Evora S, does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds and has a max speed of 300 km/h (Cayman GT4 4.4 sec and 295 km/h). Over two thirds of the 400 is new, including a new aluminium chassis incorporating a fresh interior, and a lightweight composite body that has been changed significantly both at the front and rear.

It also gets goodies like 370 mm composite two piece brake discs from AP Racing, a limited slip differential, auto air con and an infotainment system with satellite navigation. European deliveries will commence in August, while North American markets will receive the car as a 2016 model year in December, with China taking first deliveries in early 2016.

should be priced somewhere around 500k~ if it enters Malaysia due to the low taxes imposed on Lotus, considering that a new Exige S V6 costs less than a new M3 here…

That isn’t because of low taxes. That’s because of super high margin by BMWM

    • Really? Lotus has been in the sports car manufacturing from day one. Why makes you say Lotus is a overpriced Proton? Get your facts right before writing anything bro. Please compare apple to apple, not apple to a bear!

      • Why? Because Proton owns the brand. Whatever Proton touch turns into dung. Good brand associates to Proton won’t improves Proton’s image, instead that good brand image will be lowered to Proton’s level. Lotus is a very good example.

  • The proton looking interior is horrible..
It may be too much to expect a porsche level interior, but surely an interior that is at least on par with volkswagen when u are paying base price of 70k pound is a minimum?

Quite possibly. Nothing major, Proton used to assemble Lotus Elise cars at their Shah Alam plant between 1997 and 2000 for domestic consumption and regional exports (including to Japan). Japan remains Lotus’ BEST market by sales volume, better even than the U.S. and home country, U.K..

Maybe a bit too high for an ageing platform. The performance could be stellar, but the money can buy other high performance car such as M4. The previous Evora S IPS was priced slightly above RM500k. This one could go near RM800k a pop. That a massive jump. The Cayman GT4 is based on far new platform compared to Evora, with lots of parts carried over from the GT3. I really love this new Evora (with IPS trans) but the price is a letdown. I m not agree by pricing it based on performance numbers. Both Audi RS3 and Porsche Carrera S did sub-5 sec from 0-100. Can you priced RS3 the same as Carrera S? Obviously, no.

  • What’s wrong with having a toyota engine inside?
I find it funny every time someone comments that the lotus has a toyota engine inside, mind you, toyota has produced so many impressive engines, 2JZ, 4AGE, 3SGE all which have a reputation for power and reliability.
By doing this, Lotus can concentrate on what they do best, improving the handling and ride of the car. Merge it with a reliable engine and you have a reliable sports car.
Many view toyota as an inferior brand compared to lotus and hence looking down at it, turn the tables around, perodua is using toyota engines as well. Does that mean perodua is on par or better than toyota?
