2016 BAC Mono gets updated 305 hp 2.5 litre engine

The BAC Mono is already a mightily quick car. But lo and behold, the 2016 model gets even more power from the Briggs Automotive Company thanks to a new 2.5 litre four-cylinder from Mountune that produces 305 hp with no additional weight.

Frankly, this is just compact insanity on a different level. The BAC Mono was given its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and its onboard telemetry showed a run in just 47.9 seconds up the famous hill. It may have been an unofficial time, but it would have been a straight up road car record.

The most unbelievable aspect of this run was that the test driver, Oliver Webb, wasn’t really pushing the envelope and was using a prototype version of the 2.5 litre engine. With an extra 25 hp on the previous 2.3 litre Cosworth engine, the revised car weighs in at just 580 kg, which gives an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 526 hp per tonne. The 2016 model also comes with a drive-by-wire throttle as well as bespoke driver fitment that encompasses a custom steering wheel and tailor-made driver’s seat.

Apart from being the second-fastest road legal car around the Top Gear test track, with a time of 1:14.3, it has also lapped the famed Hungaroring in 1:55, which is 9.5 seconds faster than a Porsche 911 GT3, 7.0 seconds faster than a Ferrari 458 Speciale and incredibly 4.5 seconds faster than a McLaren P1. Webb believes that next year, they could easily beat the Nissan GT-R Nismo Time Attack road car time up the hill with proper tyres and their latest-specification Mountune engine.

BAC is comfortable with building one Mono a month at its Liverpool factory, and is totally committed about exporting these potent race cars to the Americas and Asia. At the moment, the company already has a US importer and a few of them already are in the US.

Can we compare the bac mono to any other car…..road car! NO. This fabulous offering has no peer. A 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engine that spanks all comers. The top of the “Hill Gang” porsche, ferrari, lamborghini, audi, mcclaren can’t currently compete with the”Mono’s” power to weight ratio. Should a larger cu inch engine (larger than 2.5 ltrs) or forced induction power plant ever get a gurnsey in the rear of this pocket rocket…Watch Out. The design of the mono simply outshines the caterham, aerial atom & the ktm.
    Well done BAC.
