Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) route alignment may be used for public transportation line

There may not be a Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex), but the alignment route for the cancelled elevated highway project is set to be put to use – the draft of the Selangor Public Transport Masterplan indicates a proposal to build an elevated public transportation line running along the alignment, The Sun Daily reports.

The proposed line, estimated to be around 11 km long, will connect Section 16 in Petaling Jaya to Bandar Kinrara. The planned north-south line will intersect the other existing four public transportation lines, which currently run in an east-west direction, according to Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran, who presented initial details to reporters yesterday.

He said that the public transport line will benefit commuters in the affected areas, and should be welcomed as it would provide better connectivity to other areas in Klang Valley.

The Selangor state government has yet to announce details of the masterplan, but Rajiv said the proposed project will have minimal impact on land acquisition despite using the same alignment as Kidex. “Building a public transportation line will only require a narrow route as compared to an elevated highway,” he said.

The cancelled Kidex project was supposed to connect the NKVE from the Damansara toll plaza to Bandar Kinrara, passing through Petaling Jaya and Puchong before linking up to the Bukit Jalil Highway. Its route alignment was 14.9 km long and included seven interchanges. In February last year, it was reported that plans to develop the elevated highway had been cancelled.

There was strong opposition to the highway project from residents, primarily those from Petaling Jaya – the question is if the proposed public transportation line will draw as much resistance. What do you think of the Selangor state government’s plans to utilise the Kidex alignment to build a public transportation line?

  • I’m all for it if it’s a train/monorail line or maybe a BRT. Not an elevated toll road.
But the residents there might object anyway as their argument previously is on an elevated structure just in front of their landed house.

  • The residents just want to serve their own interests. KV needs more highways and transport lines but they cannot care less since it would be near their homes.

  • Those residents are just being selfish to their own interest. Resisting the building of KIDEX and then now trying to put off the construction of DASH highway as well

  • They will reject for the very reason they rejected KIDEX. Because the alignment runs behind their houses. Good luck lah Azmin.
