Here is the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet – the first ever C 63 drop-top produced by the AMG division. As per the C 63 Coupe, two variants of the C 63 Cabriolet are available, being the regular C 63 and the mechanically-advanced C 63 S.
On the outside, customary AMG body styling items are apparent, notably featuring an AMG “A-wing” front splitter, more aggressive bumpers, twin-bar radiator grille and quad exhaust tips. As standard, the C 63 gets a set of 18-inch 10-spoke AMG alloy wheels, while the C 63 S gets larger 19-inch items in five-spoke AMG style. Wheel options go all the way up to sets of 20-inch items.
The A205 C 63 Cabriolet features a multi-layered fabric soft top, frameless doors and if you look closely, lacks a visible B-pillar. Just like the regular C-Class cabrio, the soft top can be opened or closed in 20 seconds, and can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Mercedes-Benz’s Airscarf neck-level heating and automatic Aircap draught-stop systems are available as options.
When the fabric roof is stowed away into the luggage compartment, the original 360 litres of boot volume is reduced to 260 litres. The multi-layered structure of the roof incorporates various insulation materials that help shut out ambient noise. It is available in black, dark brown, dark blue or dark red.
The A205 AMG C 63 features Affalterbach’s M177 4.0 litre biturbo V8 engine. The standard C 63 cabrio delivers 476 hp and 650 Nm, and is capable of performing the century sprint in 4.2 seconds. The more potent C 63 S cabrio has 510 hp and 700 Nm and goes from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.
Both cars are typically equipped with an AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sports auto transmission. They are also standard-fit with an AMG Ride Control adaptive suspension with three settings (Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus), and a model-specific exhaust flap for variable exhaust notes. An even more aggressive Performance Exhaust system is optionally available.
As with the Coupe variants, C 63 S gets an extra electronic rear-axle LSD, dynamic engine mounts and a special Race Mode from the Dynamic Select system that the normal C 63 lacks. Apart from this, all AMG C 63 Cabriolet and Coupe models are known to feature AMG-specific rear axle carriers which adds a wider rear track compared to the C 63 Sedan, among other model-specific chassis tuning.
The C 63 Cabriolet will make its market debut in August 2016. A limited-run Edition 1 variant will soon be revealed, sporting a Night Package exterior styling kit, two optional AMG Carbon-Fibre aerodynamic packages, staggered five twin-spoke ultralight AMG 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch items at the rear and AMG Performance seats in nappa leather.
The C 63 Cabriolet Edition 1 will only be available in various tones of white exterior paint – polar white, diamond white bright and the new AMG-exclusive designo cashmere white magno.

Merc has nvr been good at making 4 seater convertibles. They’ve always looked a bit off with the roof up. Their 2 seaters (SL, SLK etc) looks good. But Audi still makes the best looking 4 seaters, followed by BMW & then Merc.
But but but… their 4 seater coupe and convertibles are one of the most comfortable with good leg rooms at the back.
You can’t say the same for BMW.
