The Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet has been spied at the Nurburgring ahead of its official debut at the 2016 New York International Auto Show.
Similar to the spyshots before, the AMG test mule is covered front to back, leaving just its fabric soft-top exposed. The only missing item here is the AMG C 43 Cabriolet which we’ve seen partner the C 63 on its previous outing.
The first-ever AMG C 63 Cabrio shows us its customary AMG body styling, featuring a twin-bar radiator grille, AMG-specific bumpers and aprons, AMG high-performance brakes and quad exhaust tips. This unit also features Mercedes-Benz’s Intelligent Light System and sleeker LED tail lamps as per the regular C-Class Cabriolet model (A205).
Up top, the C 63 Cabrio’s folding roof mechanism should operate similarly to the regular C-Class Cabrio. If so, this would allow the soft top to opened and closed in 20 seconds and be operated at driving speeds of up to 50 km/h.
For power, the C 63 Cabrio will feature Affalterbach’s 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine. Just like the regular C 63, two variants are expected, being the C 63 and the mechanically-advanced C 63 S — the former has 476 hp and 650 Nm, while the latter makes 510 hp and 700 Nm. Power is sent to exclusively to the rear wheels via an AMG Speedshift MCT 7-Speed automatic transmission.
We should have full details and photos of this drop top rocket when it’s unveiled in New York very, very soon.
