As a homage to its endurance racing success, including a victory at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring with the new Audi R8 LMS race car last year, the German marque has revealed the “selection 24h,” a special edition of the road-going R8.
Built in a limited production run, only 24 units of the “selection 24h” will ever exist, with each based on the Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus. Mechanically, the mid-engine sports car remains unchanged from before. Motivation still comes from a 5.2 litre V10 with 610 hp and 560 Nm on tap. A seven-speed S tronic handles power delivery to all four corners together with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
With the “selection 24h,” the R8 does get a technical package that tags on some tempting equipment. This includes dynamic steering, Audi’s magnetic ride adaptive damper control system and Audi laser lighting. On the exterior, a tricolour paint finish consisting of Suzuka grey as the base colour, with mythos black and Misano red highlights, aims to emulate the livery found on the Audi R8 LMS racer.
Elsewhere, gloss-finish carbon-fibre is the material used for the front spoiler, the exterior mirror housings, the engine compartment cover, the rear wing and the diffuser. Carbon-fibre sideblades are also fitted here, featuring a matte-finish and a “R8 24h” logo. The 20-inch forged aluminium 10-spoke Y design wheels are painted gloss black.
Inside, the “selection 24h” gets a full-leather upholstery and trim in the colour rotor grey, with Alcantara headlining. Gloss-finish carbon-fibre reinforced plastic is used on the air vents and inlays surrounding the Audi virtual cockpit instrument display, with the latter bearing a matte-finish and a “R8 24h” logo.
For even more exclusivity, the illuminated door sill trims, which are made of gloss-finish carbon, also display the serial numbers 1 to 24 for each unit of the limited-edition cars.
Interested? The Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus selection 24h will be priced at 229,000 euros (RM1,056,549) in Germany, which is a premium of 39,000 euros (RM179,936) over the standard car there. Meanwhile in Malaysia, we are still eagerly awaiting the local debut of the second-generation Audi R8, which was teased on Audi Malaysia’s site not too long ago.
