Volvo scores most IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus awards of any European carmaker for 2017 – S60, V60, XC60

In recent years, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States has been doubling down on safety requirements for its Top Safety Pick awards. So it’s no surprise that Volvo, the standard bearer for safety, has won the most awards of any European carmaker for 2017.

The S60, V60 and XC60, equipped with Active Dual Xenon headlights, earn the Top Safety Pick Plus award, while the S90 and XC90 gain the Top Safety Pick award. For the new year, the institute has added an acceptable or good headlight rating as a requirement for its highest Top Safety Pick Plus award, in addition to the advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention required previously.

The one-rung-lower Top Safety Pick award requires cars to earn good ratings in five crashworthiness tests – small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention (up from last year’s basic rating requirement) to qualify.

Volvo has been recognised by the IIHS for safety before – in August 2016, the institute reported that cars fitted with Volvo City Safety autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system reduced rear-end collisions by 43% and those with injuries by 45%. The company will further cement that reputation with the introduction of large animal detection with AEB on the S90 and XC90 next year.

“Volvo’s commitment to safety is crystalized in our Vision 2020, which states that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020,” said Volvo Car USA president and CEO Lex Kerssemakers. “Our new cars prove that luxury, style and performance can perfectly compliment world-leading safety.”

If Volvo score Top, this means Proton also scored top and should also win awards.

this is because many of our Ministers have said, our Proton cars are BETTER and SAFER and higher Quality than Volvo cars and BMW cars. So if Volvo won many awards here, means our Proton also winner!

I am proud of Proton. This means Proton should have won many awards too

Proton won award for selling most affordable 5 star NCAP in Malaysia and Thailand.

Proton won even more important award from rakyat : trust. Whatever wrong proton did, no one questions their safety. Already plenty of Preve and Iriz accidents happened, yet their occupants got away unharmed. Their HPF body, ESC, is not gimmick, nor paraded about in boastful manner.

Unlike perodua, u question their car safety, they’ll threaten u with lawsuit. They’ll say their car is safe cuz meet Euro 4 emission standard, kek. They take Japanese cars with 6 airbags and ESC, remove them, profit kawkaw, then when govt ask them to put back ESC, they lie by saying the models they took from Japanese not designed for ESC. They care more about boasting sales figure, wanna increase price with silly excuse like forex, when earlier they boasted they’re 95% local, therefore shielded from forex risk.

You wanna entrust your life in this liar? Your money, your choice.

Don’t forget EEV incentives perodua enjoy, yet keep the savings to themselves. Whereas Volvo get EEV status, immediately pass the rm50k savings in XC90 T8 to buyers.

    Volvo > all

Small fry crash test can give chance to others.

The kinda test that can be won by company that rebadge model with VSC, remove it, then claim cannot install it cuz not designed for it.
