Isuzu Malaysia has revealed that it will introduce the 1.9 litre Ddi BluePower turbodiesel (codename RZ4E-TC) engine in the country, which was put on display at last year’s Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS).
The RZ4E-TC has been on sale in other markets since 2015, including Thailand, and is used in the D-Max pick-up truck and MU-X SUV. Despite being smaller in displacement compared to the seasoned 4JK1-TCX 2.5 litre unit, the BluePower engine offers 150 hp at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque (16 hp and 30 Nm gain), while being 19% more efficient and 20% lighter.
“All in, the RZ4E-TC 1.9 litre Ddi BluePower has an increase of 10% in power, 9.4% more torque, 8.2% faster acceleration and 19% better fuel economy,” said Masayuki Suzuki, chief operating officer of light commercial vehicle at Isuzu Malaysia.
For now, the company says the engine is in its final phase of testing for the local market, and will be launched here by the end of this year. However, no details about which model will be the first recipient of the engine. Nonetheless, this is good news for consumers as they’ll be getting a lower-capacity turbodiesel engine with better performance. Interested?

Malaysia market always get outdated engines because most car companies here are owned by the Government.
The Government of the past did not want to spend money to give its rakyat latest engines and higher safety spec cars because then, the Government will lose their untung.
The Government did not have any incentive t tell all car companies to give us, say, 9 airbags in all cars.
or we can think in the other way where Isuzu want to make sure its car has zero/ near zero issue before entering to malaysia to maintain its image of reliability.
you know la malaysian car owner, or even the non car owner like to complain here and there even at paultan website. so to prevent become like VW’s DSG issue so this is the best way!
realiabily image is important
Why is Isuzu giving us outdated fuel
Why is our Malaysian Government allowing Diesel into Malaysia when other countries are banishing Diesel?
We are doing complete opposite.
Lower road tax ftw.
All over the world they are stopping diesel. Cause it has been proven Diesel is toxic and the EU has been bluffing us about the cleanliness of diesel.
So in Europe, Diesel is dying. Infact by 2035, whole of Europe going to be fully EV and no petrol or diesel cars to be sold.
So Malaysia is now dumping ground for Diesel engines.
But do you want to buy a petrol pickup truck ? Diesel is here to stay whether you like it or not.
Most important is not about being faster, lighter, more efficient, but it must be Cheaper
Can we swap with an existing car?
Interested ? Yes back in 2015..
Everone is switching to electric engines… no matter how efficient it becomes it will never beat the eco friendliness and efficiency of an electrically generated propulsion.
Yeah, except that the car companies are silent on how to dispose off of the electric batteries once they have reached their usefulness or end of life. Disposing of the electric batteries are not eco friendly at the moment.
And another thing is the cost of the electric batteries. It is still very expensive.
I remember asking Isuzu Malaysia salesperson way back in 2015 or 2016, when this engine will be introduced in Malaysia, since it was already launched in Thailand.
Back then I was looking for a pick up with a good torque, economical fuel consumption (for a truck) as well as cheap running costs. This engine would be ideal, since it is below 2.0L and the road tax would be much cheaper.
Unfortunately the salesperson could not give a definite answer when the 1.9L engine is coming to Malaysia.
So I ended up buying a Triton instead.
Isuzu Malaysia is already 4 years too late! They could have have stolen some volume from Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara.
Ev, petrol and diesel are not all come from clean source. Electric too need generator, need coal, need gas in malaysia. In Europe they have nuclear and guess where they dump their nuclear waste? Third world countries too lah…so why bother with selfishness of European people…
