The 2006 Kia Rio/Rio5 clinched the top position for the US market J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Initial Quality Study SM (IQS) in the sub-compact category. The Rio/Rio5 tied together with the Suzuki Aerio for the top position of the survey which measures 217 vehicle attributes over 8 categories including driving experience, engine and transmission as well as QC problems reported by buyers. The Kia Rio/Rio5 scored 137 problems per 100 vehicles, the same as the Suzuki Aerio.

Other winners of the award include the Lexus LS430 in the large premium car category, the Toyota Corolla in the compact car category, the Lexus SC430 for premium sporty car, the Mazda MX-5 Miata for compact sporty car, the Toyota Solara for midsize sporty car, the Porsche Cayman for compact premium sporty car, the Toyota Camry for midsize car, the Lexus IS250/350 for entry premium car, the Pontiac Grand prix for large car and the Lexus ES330 for midsize premium car. Looks like Toyota and it’s luxury brand Lexus managed to clinch top position in 7 out of the 11 categories in the car segment.

You should notice how well hyundai did also on the IQS. Five of their models is listed in top three. Plus Kia (their sub) that becomes six! Also hyundai is the third least problematic car one notch higher ranking than toyota.

somehow here in msia, people still think that p1 has better quality….. i experience those lots of times where people say they will not buy korean cars because lack of quality etc etc and they buy p1 instead.

problem is the korean cars here that are in the same price range are CKD cars, not the same as the cars in the US market which were involved in this survey

You're right indeed, Paul. I think imported cars are still somewhat overpriced on our shores.

For those who say no to korean cars… take a look at the survey… Hyundai cars are good enough for USs… why not Malaysia? Just that the pricing here is too high… quality wise… nah… far more better than those who think they cant trust Korean cars.. just sometimes the design is strange…

i think the problems here is not the car. the problem also not the price. the problem is malaysian cannot afford to BUY. Many things are expensive or valueable to me, the problem is, I cannot afford. WHY? So I don't blame the products being expensive, I blame I don't have that wealth to buy all these…

We all read about who owns what car, what plane, what property/ land… The point is we can only envy others. So just tell everyone what I think, car prices, oil prices and what ever prices will never be cheaper anyway. Complaint doesn't help. So why not we find ways to earn more money, more wealth and contribute back to community? (as if I'm doing it)

It is so sad, Malaysian always look at the price factor, no matters what's the products… doesn't this sounds like a third world country. okay, i stop here. maybe someone what to comment about my comments :)
